Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on February 29, 2024, for PlayStation 5.
To close out the September 14 State of Play livestream, Square Enix finally announced the official release date for its highly anticipated RPG alongside a brand new trailer, featuring Cloud Strife and friends, new locations like the Golden Saucer, as well as some new appearances fans of the original game may be familiar with, including Vincent Valentine, Cait Sith, and more.
Rebirth is essentially part two of Final Fantasy 7 Remake — which launched in 2020 — and seems to pick up exactly where the previous game left off and will feature «nearly 100 hours of adventure,» according to game director Naoki Hamaguchi.
«After escaping from the dystopian city of Midgar,» Square Enix says. «Cloud and his friends set out on a journey across the planet. New adventures await in a vibrant and vast world – sprint across grassy plains on a Chocobo and explore expansive environments.»
Following the announcement, the studio shared several letters from the team, including producer Yoshinori Kitase who discussed what players of the original can expect and hinted that we'll be seeing the recreation of one of the game's most iconic scenes, which we won't spoil here.
«We know fans are dying to see one scene in particular,» he said, which has fans online going wild.
Despite featuring 100 hours of content, in a separate interview with the PlayStation Blog creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed when Rebirth will end in terms of the story, saying, «Although there are some changes in the order of the locations, the locations depicted in this title extend up to “The Forgotten Capital.”
Ahead of the launch, Square Enix is also releasing a Twin Pack, which includesFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, the graphically enhanced and expanded version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Preorders are now available for the Twin Pack, as well as for the collector's edition, which comes with the game, steel box, artbook, soundtrack, extra digital goodies, and a statue of Sephiroth.

Square Enix and Applibot’s free-to-play mobile remake of Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis, launched worldwide earlier this month, and in its early days, the game seems to have enjoyed a great deal of success. In fact, Square Enix has also confirmed that it’ll be bringing the RPG to even more players.
Fans have been pleading for years, hoping that Square Enix would provide a remake of the beloved Final Fantasy VII video game. This title launched back on the original PlayStation. Of course, we now know this remake was finally put into production, but it won’t be a complete experience with just one game. In fact, the first part of the remake has already been published, and you can enjoy it right now. However, if you’ve already played the first game in the remake collection for Final Fantasy VII, your eyes might be set on that next installment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
After playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the first time (check out my full impressions here), I then spoke with director Naoki Hamaguchi, producer Yoshinori Kitase, and creative director Tetsuya Nomura to seek answers to some burning questions. That includes how much narrative ground Rebirth covers, the decision behind splitting it between two discs, and if there’s any form of data transfer between Remake and Rebirth.
@kyleforrester87 Seeing you talk about the start of Disc 2 in FF8 reminded me that I recently abandoned a playthrough at the start of Disc 2 for the literal 4th time.
When and whether other versions will come remains unknown.
One of the things that makes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth interesting in the eyes of fans is that the game is building off of what the original “Remake” title did in 2020. We mean they’re not simply remaking the game graphically from top to bottom. Instead, they’re expanding everything that happens in the story and fleshing out moments and characters so that everything feels more robust and meaningful. The trick is that they’re doing this while also changing key moments in the key and rewriting the fates of known characters and their deaths. That “altering” will continue in the sequel.
Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive for a minimum of three months.
