Critical Role just announced Beacon, its new membership and streaming service that includes exclusive bonus content, early access to shows, and other premium perks. Run by Critical Role directly, this new service does not replace existing options like Twitch or YouTube, but is a different platform through which fans can support the company and its Dungeons and Dragons actual play shows.

Dungeons and Dragons just confirmed an updated SRD featuring the new rules from the 2024 core rulebooks is coming shortly after the revision is complete. Fans can expect SRD 5.2 to arrive shortly after the revised Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual releases in February 2025.

Wizards of the Coast, publishers of Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, has released a new FAQ addressing the use of generative AI in both franchises. As a controversial technology, it is an area that fans have been inquiring about. Generative AI has already been at the heart of controversy for Wizards, like when the company replaced AI-generated artwork in Bigby Presents: Glory of Giants for future printings after it was discovered AI artwork had been used.

But with Larian having confirmed that its next game isn’t going to be Baldur’s Gate 4 (or connected to Dungeons and Dragons at all, for that matter), what does the future of the franchise look like? Well, apparently, Hasbro – parent company of Dungeons and Dragons owner Wizards of the Coast – is already looking into where to take things from here- and more importantly, with whom.

Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are moving forward with plans for a sequel to Baldur's Gate 3. The news comes following the reveal that Larian Studios, developer of Baldur's Gate 3, is stepping back from the series following the award-winning game's launch.

Last month, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vinckke went on record to halt any speculation about the development of Baldur’s Gate 4, instead clarifying that the studio was moving on to something new. While this may be true, Hasbro isn’t as ready to let the Baldur’s Gate train grind to a halt.

After the surprising announcement that Larian Studios would be moving on from the Baldur's Gate franchise, studio CEO Swen Vincke stated that the new direction was not the decision of Wizards of the Coast. Although Wizards of the Coast holds the licensing for Baldur's Gate 3, Vincke has been quick to dispel rumors that the Hasbro-owned company is the reason why the studio is moving on from the IP.

A Dungeons and Dragons campaign that lasted for 30 years has recently ended in a total party kill (TPK), according to its dungeon master. During The Game Awards 2023, developer Archetype Entertainment has unveiled its first title, Exodus, through a trailer presented by award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey. The trailer, which you can check out below, shows off the game’s main story, as well as some gameplay.

Starbreeze Entertainment is working on a new action-adventure game based on Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons and Dragons property. Codenamed Project Baxter, it will launch in 2026 for “all major platforms” with cross-play. Check out the first two pieces of concept art below.

The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 has done more than just boost the reputation of developer Larian Studios. Caught by TweakTown, the latest Q3 earnings figures for Hasbro—the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, which owns Dungeons & Dragons—indicates that the RPG also led to more sales of the tabletop game.

Magic: The Gathering premiered 30 years ago on August 5th, 1993.  A lot has changed in 30 years but one thing that has remained the same is that fans are in love with Magic .  In celebration of 30 years of MTG , Wizards of the Coast did four separate MagicCon events in Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Barcelona, and finally in tandem with Magic World Championship XXIX, MagicCon Las Vegas.  I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to spend some time at MagicCon Las Vegas on September 22-24. I took in some panels, played some magic and did a lot of walking.
