In an otherwise challenging time for the industry, Dragon's Dogma 2 developer Capcom has announced recording the highest-ever game sales in company history. Besides Dragon's Dogma 2, the Japan-based firm launched another major hit, Street Fighter 6, during fiscal year 2024.

Capcom has released a new trailer for the latest set of cosmetic DLCs coming to Street Fighter 6. The DLC will bring with it the third set of DLC outfits, which will be available for Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma. The new set of outfits will be coming to Street Fighter 6 on May 22.

Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 will receive its fourth DLC character this month with the legendary Akuma. As part of the Year 1 Character Pass, the Satsui no Hado master is older and meaner, sporting new and familiar moves to devastate enemies. Multiplayer gaming feels pretty much inescapable these days. Sure, we’ve left the days of “tacked on” multiplayer modes behind us, but now we have so many games that are all about online gaming, live service models, and a constant drip feed of things to lure you back in to play.

I think almost every gamer would agree that how a game feels to play is absolutely the most important factor in whether it’s fun or not. Given how many fan-created ‘demakes’ there are of contemporary blockbusters, the proliferation of pixel art (which while it can be pretty is hardly pushing graphical limits), and hilariously shonky nonsense of a game like Vampire Survivors, it’s pretty clear that gameplay is king.

2023 will go down in history as one of the best years the gaming industry has ever experienced. With the current generation of consoles in full swing for harnessing latent technological innovations, the only limitations this year felt like imagination — and developers are clearly not lacking in that department.

Capcom is teaming up with NERDS Clothing and producer Steel Sessions to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Hip Hop genre with Street Fighter. Mark your calendars. This year’s Evolution Championship Series (Evo) takes place from August 4 to 6. For fighting game enthusiasts, 2023 is certainly starting to feel like the year of the fighting game, with a tidal wave of highly anticipated titles like the recently released Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1 launching September 19,  Tekken 8 on the horizon, Riot Games’ intriguing new foray into the genre, and much more to come.
