The Nvidia tools used to create that raytraced Portal mod and other fanciness are now in open beta, inviting all and sundry to jazz up everything from Deus Ex to Garry's Mod. Nvidia's RTX Remix tech lets people fancify old games by injecting fancy modern lighting, new models, textures 'remastered' by AI, new environmental decoration, and other such fanciness, even if the game doesn't have mod support. I'll be curious to see what people make with this, though I am wary of artlessly pumping new tech into old games.

If you love old PC games, but wish they had access to modern graphical flourishes, NVIDIA has you covered. The company just released a beta version of its long-awaited RTX Remix tool. This software is designed especially for modders and can be used to add ray-tracing and AI-upscaled textures to older games.

Today, almost a year and a half after the modding platform's announcement, NVIDIA releases the highly anticipated RTX Remix creator toolkit Open Beta. While the runtime has been available for some time, the public availability of the creator toolkit should really kickstart the modders' work to easily remaster classic PC games with cutting-edge rendering features like path tracing, DLSS 3, and AI-upscaled assets. NVIDIA is also partnering with ModDB to make it easier for users to check out which games are compatible with RTX Remix and to get the optimized configuration files to run the mods.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic may have launched over seventeen years ago on PC, but its status as a cult classic remains cemented in the hearts of many fans. Arkane struck gold with the excellent first-person melee-based combat, which remained the benchmark in action RPGs for quite a while.

If you are a fan of Nvidia's PC endeavors, you probably heard of RTX Remix, the neat little modding tool that allows users to remaster old games and give them RTX enhancements such as DLSS and ray tracing. And today, Nvidia announced that the tool will finally be available to more users later this month.

Two months ago, NVIDIA unveiled Half-Life 2 RTX, a modding project developed by the newly created Orbifold Studios with RTX Remix. We’re still patiently waiting for Nvidia RTX Remix to be unleashed on the modding community, ushering in copious fan made ray traced remasters. Not content to remain at the whims of Nvidia, ReShade developer Pascal Glicher has begun development of their own tool similar to team green’s program, and has already given Skyrim a path tracing makeover with it.
