Aside from this fan project, Max Payne developer Remedy Entertainment is currently working on remakes of the first two Max Payne games. Back in October of 2023, Remedy confirmed that these remakes have progressed to the production stage. "Max Payne 1&2 remake progressed into the production readiness stage", Remedy's CEO Tero Virtala said. "We have gained clarity on the style and scope of the game, and we have an exceptionally well-organized team working on it. With these accomplishments, we are excited about the project and its future success."
The official Max Payne remakes were announced for PC and consoles in 2022, and are coming as a single package. "Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same", Remedy said upon the announcement of the remakes. "We're hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways."
