Nintendo’s Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake might not be the most high-profile of upcoming releases, but if you were a fan of the Game Boy Advance original, it’s likely a game that you’ve got an eye on. From redone visuals two new worlds to Time Attack and Casual modes, there’s plenty of new things that the remake is bringing to the table- with co-op being another notable one.

Along with casually confirming a Nintendo Switch successor, Nintendo also provided updated sales numbers for its hardware and software for the fiscal year ending March 31st 2024. It included sales for the latest Switch titles like Princess Peach: Showtime!, which launched on March 22nd and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, released on February 16th.

Famitsu has released its latest weekly charts for physical software sales and hardware sales in Japan, and once again, it’s a newly released game that’s topped the charts on the software side of things. Nintendo released its remake of the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Switch last week, and it’s debuted on top of the charts, selling 61,930 units upon release.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong, a remake of the 2004 puzzle-platforming classic, is now available on Nintendo Switch. It sees Donkey Kong stealing Mini Marios and everyone’s favorite plumber-turned-toy-factory-CEO Mario traversing through several different worlds to get them back. The new remake is a perfect example of what a remake should be by not only updating the graphics but also adding all-new levels, quality-of-life features, and so much more to the experience. The original game, of the same name, was released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance as a spin-off from both the series of games and the 1994 game,. Blending the two together, it introduced fun puzzle mechanics and transformed many familiar enemies into wind-up toy versions of themselves.

With Mario vs. Donkey Kong out next month, Nintendo has released a new trailer showcasing the opening. It’s a gorgeous cutscene that’s fully animated and sets up the premise for the story. Donkey Kong wants Mini-Marios, which are unavailable in stores. He then raids Mario’s toy factory and steals them, leading to Mario chasing him.

True to recent leaks, Nintendo did end up unveiling a new Donkey Kong game at the recent Nintendo Direct- well, more or less. The Japanese publisher has announced Mario vs. Donkey Kong, the first game in that particular line of games in several years.
