NCsoft, the developer and Korean publisher for upcoming game Throne and Liberty, is reportedly planning a shift away from the gacha monetization system. This decision comes in light of the increasing scrutiny and regulations surrounding gacha systems, and most notably, a lack of enjoyment from players that have criticized the practice for many years.

As confirmed by a delightfully moody trailer narrated by Stellaron Hunter (and key character) Kafka, the uber-popular turn-based gacha RPG Honkai: Star Rail will finally release on PS5 from 11th October. The small print at the end of the trailer mentions that the game is a PS5 console exclusive for a “limited time”, so presumably it will launch on other platforms later.

Update: As previously announced, HoYoverse has opened sign ups for a technical test featuring the PS5 version of Honkai: Star Rail. It sounds like if you've already started on PC or mobile, cross-save will be supported, as long as your HoYoverse account is linked to your PSN. Wow, watch out HoYoverse, eh? Teased earlier in the month, Chinese juggernaut Netease Games has announced a new, upcoming PS5 and PS4 open world named Project Mugen – and its debut trailer will almost certainly drop your jaws. While it leans heavily into gacha tropes – those waifu character designs have been purpose built to empty your wallets, after all – the gameplay on display is seriously impressive, showcasing Spider-Man-like swinging, flashy combat, and even vehicular exploration. The game will be available to download for free, and you can pre-register your interest on its official website through here.

A brand-new open world gacha game is coming to PS5, and it looks pretty promising so far. Project Mugen will be officially unveiled at Gamescom next week, on 24th August, for Sony’s new-gen console alongside PC and mobile. It’s being developed by a studio named Naked Rain, which is a subsidiary of NetEase’s Chinese-based Thunder Fire team.
