On Dec. 12, notorious ransomware group Rhysida announced it was holding a mass of Insomniac Games data hostage. If Insomniac Games wanted to keep the information from being released, it would have to pay up. Rhysida wanted 50 bitcoin (roughly $2 million) for the data — and it was willing to take that from anyone who wanted it, via an auction on its dark-web site. When the imposed seven-day deadline passed without a buyer, Rhysida posted most of the hacked data online — a massive 1.67 TB that contains more than 1.3 million files, according to cybersecurity website CyberDaily.

The ransomware group that hacked Spider-Man 2developer Insomniac Games on Dec. 12 has followed through on its threat to release the stolen data if it didn’t get paid. The group, Rhysida, has posted 1.67 terabytes of data spanning 1.3 million files on its darknet site. The data includes footage and files from Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game, as well as the studio’s release slate for the next 12 years, sensitive commercial and strategy documents, Slack screenshots, and personnel files.

If you haven’t heard, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a really, really good game. Just, so good. When the semi-regular cast of Beyond was asked to decide our best PlayStation game of 2023, several of us immediately blurted out Baldur’s Gate 3, and no one else had any objections. So, there are plenty of write-ups on IGN and elsewhere about why it’s so great, but I wanted to reflect a little on how it seemingly came out of nowhere. Make no mistake, this game is 100% Game of the Year material. It almost was IGN’s overall pick, losing to Zelda by a handful of votes. That said, it seems like a miracle that such a dense, unabashedly technical entry in a 23-years-dormant franchise would have such widespread appeal.

Final Fantasy XVI was one of many games that got attention last night at The Game Awards—not only because of the various awards it was nominated for but Square Enix revealed that the two-part DLC content for the game would be partially released sooner than fans expected. More news will be shared in early 2024, but the publisher is «dedicated to making it an experience that truly honors the legacy of the original». It’s official: a new Beyond Good & Evil game is coming out. No, wait, come back: we really mean it this time. While Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still a no-show for the foreseeable, Ubisoft has confirmed that the original game will see a remaster next year for its 20th anniversary. And unlike BGE2, we know we’ll almost definitely be able to play it in the next 12 months, let alone the next decade, because some people are already playing it.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that they’ve entered into a “strategic global business partnership” with Korean publishing giant NCSoft. Two years after its release in September 2021, Tales of Arise gets a new expansion in Beyond the Dawn, the first DLC for a Tales game that serves as a direct continuation of the game's main story.

When Tales of Arise dropped in 2021, producer Yusuke Tomizawa confirmed at the time that the game would not be getting any story expansions via DLC or updates. That seemed like a fine deal, at the time – Tales games aren’t exactly known for getting post-launch expansions, and it had a pretty satisfying narrative conclusion that left a smile on my face. Sure, the ramifications of the ending left some big ideas unexplored, but they felt more like inconsequential background details when compared to the character-driven drama that was really pushing things along. Despite a satisfying conclusion and promises of no DLC continuation, a massive post-game DLC has now arrived for Tales of Arise called Beyond the Dawn, and while it’s nice to be able to return to this world and these characters, I’m still not fully convinced we needed to.

In celebration of the MMORPG's 20th anniversary in 2024, the team at Blizzard wanted to kick off the next twenty years by launching the start of a trilogy of expansions that will result in a deep dive into the lore behind the world of Azeroth itself. Horde and Alliance will both get to finally see what the reasoning is behind the massive sword on the planet, and what it means for all of them.

A new trailer for Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn has arrived. The expansion is out in just under a month, and as the name suggests, it depicts a world that's busy rebuilding after the events of the main game. This latest video shows a bit more of what you'll be doing in the DLC outside of its central story, with quests that detail the post-credit happenings of characters and cities. It also looks like Alphen and the gang will be called upon to help with the aforementioned rebuild.

Publisher Atari and developer Dreams Uncorporated have released the official gameplay trailer for Lunar Lander Beyond, the upcoming new game based on the 1979 arcade classic Lunar Lander. A limited demo will be available for PC via Steam from today at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET until October 16.

Atari and Cristales developer Dreams Uncorporated have pulled back the veil on Lunar Lander Beyond for this week’s Steam Next Fest. They’ve put out a trailer for the game, as well as a demo for you to try it out.

So it’s no surprise that when Wizards of the Coast announced their Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond collaboration with the BBC, that the Weeping Angels would make an appearance.  In fact, there is an entire Commander deck being dedicated to the villains of Doctor Who.  Recently, I had the chance to see a huge preview of the upcoming Universes Beyond Commander decks that will be releasing on October 13th. 

Titmouse, the LA-based animation studio behind Metalocalypse and The Venture Bros., shared a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure series Scavengers Reign on Wednesday. The adult animated drama centers on the crew of an interstellar freighter ship who, after surviving their crash on an uncharted alien world, must fight to build a new way of life while searching for a way of returning home.

While we wait (and wait) for Ubisoft to show more of Beyond Good & Evil 2, early footage from the project has surfaced from back in 2008.
