There’s a view amongst some psychologists that boredom is a vital part of a person’s mental wellbeing. It seems like the perfect concept: Dimension 20’s Unsleeping City, an actual play Dungeons & Dragons campaign about the secret magical underbelly of New York City, played live in front of a paying audience at the Big Apple’s hall of halls, Madison Square Garden, for one epic night of adventure — an event dubbed “Gauntlet at the Garden.”

Almost all video games are painstakingly made by human hands, but Harold Halibut takes that idea so literally that you can almost spot the fingerprints of its creators on screen. This colourful, story-driven adventure features meticulously hand-sculpted characters that have been seated in detailed miniature sets, digitally scanned, and brilliantly brought to life in a 12-hour interactive stop-motion movie that we get to star in. Yet, like the oceanic alien world in which it takes place, Harold Halibut is deeper than it first appears. I came for the unconventional art style, but I stayed for the cast of quirky characters and a playful mystery to unravel that features plenty of warmth and humour beneath its striking stop-motion surface.

Blizzard removed the mention of additional character slots to be available with Patch 10.2.7 from their blog post. This likely means this change won't be happening with Timerunning: Pandaria. Originally, Blizzard had mentioned in their announcement that additional character slots would be available with Remix: Mists of Pandaria. As Remix plays on normal realms, players are limited to the existing 60 character limit per WoW account. Thus, if someone is already capped on their character count, they will need to delete a character to play Remix: Mists of Pandaria, as the game mode requires a fresh character. It could be the case that they are still going to implement this change ultimately, as PTR changes happen often, but it is unlikely as the mention has been removed from their announcement blog.

SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection will launch for Switch and PC via Steam on April 18 in Japan for 1,980 yen, SUNSOFT announced. The PC version be available worldwide, but it will only be available in Japanese. An English release is also planned.

The Prince of Persia has gone rogue! No, I don’t mean that he’s married a Hollywood actress, moved to California, and spilled the royal tea in a tell-all interview with Oprah. I mean he’s starring in his first 2D roguelite. Hot off the heels of the series’ excellent return to form in January’s The Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, his sword-swinging highness is stepping away from the Metroidvania structure and into the procedurally generated, live, die, repeat mold of Dead Cells, in The Rogue Prince of Persia. While I’ve only had a very short amount of hands-on time with the upcoming adventure, the early signs suggest that this could well be the second dazzling jewel added to the Prince’s crown in less than the space of a year.

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Nerial will release Reigns: Beyond for Switch and PC via Steam on April 17, the companies announced.

All three games launch onto PlayStation as part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. And there are even more games joining April’s Game Catalog lineup. Let’s take a closer look at each. Aside from Animal Well and Tales of Kenzera: Zau, all titles will be available on April 16.

Future-noir adventure game Let Bions Be Bygones will launch for PC via Steam on April 30, publisher MicroProse and developer Bohemian Pulp announced. A demo is currently available.

A team led by the former creative director on Destiny announced Tuesday that they’re working on a new game under parent company ProbablyMonsters, the studio founded by former Bungie president and CEO Harold Ryan. That new development team is named Hidden Grove, and is working on an original “multiplayer competitive adventure game” built on Unreal Engine 5.

Some of the best adventures released for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition can be found in Wizards of the Coast’s popular anthologies, including Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, Keys from the Golden Vault, and my personal favorite, Candlekeep Mysteries. But D&D’s decade-long renaissance has also given us loads of classic adventures revised for new audiences, including the legendary Tomb of Horrors. This summer, fans will be given access to another new set of historic modules called Quests from the Infinite Staircase, which is full to bursting with some of the seminal role-playing game’s weirdest encounters.

Ereban: Shadow Legacy is a throwback to an era of single-player video games that I miss.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is about the journey, not the destination. It’s about exploring routes you’ve never taken before, camping in the wilderness, and having an unexpected run in with a Minotaur. Quests objectives are also left intentionally vague, forcing you to puzzle things out and speak to as many people as you can. If you could just easily fast travel to obvious quest markers you could certainly check them off your list more efficiently, but then you’d miss out entirely on the adventure of getting there.

Sand Land, the open world adaptation of Akira Toriyama's standalone manga, has real potential. And honestly, that surprised us, because we had this game (perhaps unfairly) tagged as another somewhat underwhelming Bandai Namco tie-in. Have you ever played Noodlecake’s Lumino City, the cute puzzle adventure game? It’s been around for quite a while. Then, why am I talking about it? Well, this pretty ‘lit’ game is now up for grabs at just $0.99. Originally priced at $4.99, it’s already garnered over 11.3k reviews on the Play Store since its release in 2017.

One of the best parts of Classic Hardcore was absolutely the hilarious death clips that popped up. Entire channels were able to skyrocket themselves with death compilations alone. One of the most iconic of these was Guzu's hole in one in Sunken Temple at level 52. A perfect storm permanently killing his character by threading the needle into the infamous pit of death. It looks like the Season of Discovery team were watching the same clips we were, and a new NPC, the Unfortunate Adventurer has shown up in our datamining. Looks fairly familiar, doesn't he? While we don't know for sure where this NPC will pop up, I'd say it's a fairly safe bet to assume you can find him in the Sunken Temple raid.

2024 has become a year of equally joyous and tragic significance for fans of Akira Toriyama. Earlier last month, the TV anime adaptation of the late mangaka’s 2000 sci-fi comedy manga Sand Land premiered on streaming, just a few weeks after Toriyama’s passing at the age of 68.

In my time exploring the magical land of The Enclave, I encountered a handful of these formidable monstrosities, which ranged from a robotic bipedal summoner who used his magical staff to cover the world in fire to a flying dragon who persistently hunted me from the skies above. Continuing our month-long coverage of Eternal Strands as part of IGN First, today we’ll be taking a look at one such oversized baddie: The Ark of the Forge, a hammer-wielding automaton with deep love of smelting puny Weavers into piles of ash.
