Nintendo gamers on Wii U and 3DS have beaten a 14-year-old Halo 2 record by playing online after the scheduled shutdown date for the system’s servers. These Nintendofans surpassed the previous record set by Halo 2 fans, who continued playing for 25 days after the servers were scheduled to be shut down. Like the Nintendo fans today, the Halo fans found that they were able to play well beyond the shut-down date, as long as they kept playing.

Former Nintendo employees have revealed that, despite its public announcement, Xenoblade Chronicles was originally planned to go without a North American release. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of Nintendo's most popular RPG series, with its pedigree allowing developer Monolith Soft to become one of Nintendo's most reliable first-party studios. However, none of Xenoblade's success would have been possible without the very first entry released on the Nintendo Wii all the way back in 2010.

Kit and Krysta, ex-Nintendo employees, showed their impressive Nintendo 3DS collection in a video. The duo mentions they had the benefit of being part of the entire lifecycle of the Nintendo 3DS while working at Nintendo, which allowed them to amass a collection of 100+ items.

Today was the latest entry in his “Game Concepts” line of videos, and the video game he broke down this time was Super Smash Bros For 3DS and Wii U. These titles were very unique compared to the titles that came before and the one that came after, so there was much to speak about.

Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest X Online‘s version 7.0 expansion Dragon Quest X Online: The Door to the Future and the Sleeping Girl. It will launch in 2024 in Japan. More information will be announced after the story of version 6.0 comes to a close.

The Nintendo 3DS, the company’s 2011 successor to the Nintendo DS, was discontinued in 2020, but the handheld console has continued to have a dedicated fanbase. While the Wii U and 3DS eShop shutdowns in late March have made it much harder to buy new games for the console, somehow, 3DS fans have persisted. Over the past three months, Nintendo has sold roughly 210,000 3DS games, according to its quarterly earnings results.
