A gamer has recreated Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time out of wood, replicating many of the details of the Hero of Time, including his sword and shield. While fan art featuring Ocarina of Time's protagonist is not unusual, carving the character’s likeness out of wood helps this piece stand out.
While Nintendo has created numerous iconic characters over the decades, Link from The Legend of Zelda series is among the most recognizable. First introduced in the 1986 NES game, the character has featured in many mainline titles, including the most recent Tears of the Kingdom. In addition, Link has been included in other game series like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, and Nintendo recently announced it is producing a movie based on the character. Unsurprisingly, this popularity has spawned numerous pieces of artwork from the Zelda community based on the character.
One of the most recent of these comes from a Reddit user known as ForceFluide1, who revealed their woodcarving of Link. In the post, the creator shared several pictures of the carving from different directions, showing the meticulous detailing of the wood art made from oak. The artist posed Link standing, gripping the Hylain Shield in one hand with his legendary Master Sword sheathed on his back. Every facet of the design featured impressive details, such as his wrinkled tunic and the insignia on his shield. Furthermore, the artist used wood stain to create the darker shades on the carving’s sword, shield, arms, and boots.
This latest woodcarving from the creator has already amassed hundreds of upvotes on the platform, with many wondering how long the project took. Fortunately, ForceFluide1 answered these queries, noting the entire project required roughly two or three weeks to finish. With many fans impressed with the creator’s work, several even suggested they attempt to carve the creepy Elegy of Emptiness statue of Link from Majora’s Mask.
It is exciting to see the number of impressive fan art generated by the Zelda community on a weekly basis. For example, another fan recreated Link in breathtaking detail in Unreal Engine 5. Besides these creations, gamers have been making all sorts of things inside the franchise's latest installment. Utilizing new abilities, including Ultrahand and Fuse, players have designed machines, such as podracers inspired by Star Wars and a mechanical fire-breathing dinosaur in Tears of the Kingdom. It will be interesting to see what passionate fans create in-game and in the real world in the weeks ahead as they wait for the eventual next installment in the popular series.
