Although the DLC expansions for , and, have released to generally positive reception, they're still notably missing a major feature from the DLC of the previous generation. As the second generation to expand through the release of DLC, rather than a third version along the lines of or, have seemingly solidified DLC expansions as the late-generation approach to releasing more content as the franchise moves forward. However, the change hasn't made the franchise any better at retaining its features.
Despite a troubled launch, and technical performance that can still be considered shaky at best, the ninth generation of has received a significant amount of post-launch support, with receiving a post-game epilogue for players who purchased and played the DLCs. However, as has been the case with many games in the series, can still feel like the franchise is taking two steps forward and one step back, particularly regarding the features and mechanics from past games that get left behind as the franchise moves to a new generation.
Although the DLCs for add plenty of new content, including new areas, Pokémon, and activities like 's Blueberry Quests, they're notably lacking something that mirrors Dynamax Adventures — one of the more unique additions made by 's DLC. Building on the base game's Max Raid Battles, Dynamax Adventures allowed players to party up in teams of four and tackle a series of Max Raid battles against random Pokémon, sometimes rare additions from past generations, before culminating in a battle against a Legendary.
Though they had their pain points, like the available rental Pokémon sometimes having suboptimal movesets, Dynamax Adventures were a compelling way to catch Legendaries, starters, or other rare Pokémon from past generations, and the ability to swap out a rental Pokémon with any other Pokémon defeated along the path added an element of adaptation. While Dynamax Adventures didn't require the most complicated strategies to complete, they essentially served as a rewarding «endgame» to, and as a whole.
Comparatively, the equivalent activity in are Blueberry Quests, which similarly grant access to past-generation Legendaries, but function much more like tasks from a battle pass than a dedicated game mode, asking players to do things like catch a certain type of Pokémon or make a specific kind of sandwich. Though they can similarly be completed in multiplayer through Union Circles, there's little difficulty and no real reason to team up other than optimizing the amount of BP that's gained from the quests, whereas having actual players instead of NPCs for Dynamax Adventures could make a significant difference.
Notably, the base game had already built on the Max Raid Battles of with Tera Raid
Following the Flying Blaziken raid, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet rolled out the 7-Star Ice Empoleon Tera Raid Event. With only hours left in Round 2, this is your last chance to catch this formidable foe.
One Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player was recently amused to realize that The Indigo Disk's Savanna Plaza is shaped like a giant frying pan. While their observation qualifies as one of those things that cannot be unseen after being pointed out, it would appear that this neat little detail went unnoticed by many Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans up until recently.
In the second part of the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet DLC, you get to attend a brand-new school! The Indigo Disk brings players to Blueberry Academy, a school in the middle of Unova’s ocean. In addition to reuniting with Carmine and Kieran from The Teal Mask, you meet the Blueberry Elite Four by joining the League Club. Of course, every club needs a club room.
Following the January Paradox Tera raid event, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet confirmed that the next Seven-Star Tera Raid battle event would pit trainers against Empoleon the Unrivaled. Though starter Pokemon from the Sinnoh region can be caught in The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the raid marks the first time a Sinnoh starter has been featured as a Tera raid boss.
A conversation in ’s DLC reveals that one character is actually related to one of the series’ major villains. games can be connected in many ways, with recurring NPCs and references to the events of other titles allowing for a coherent timeline of the franchise to be created. These links can be both clear and subtle, and on occasion even lead to some surprising revelations.
While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are considered much more bug-free now than they used to be, a terrifying encounter with a wild Pokemon shared online proves that even some of the most chaotic glitches remain intact after more than a year since the games were released. While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet represent a slightly different take on the traditional formula in terms of gameplay, the Gen 9 games' lackluster graphics, poor performance, and relatively frequent bugs have substantially marred their reputation in the eyes of the wider gaming community.
A recently discovered trick in allows players to trigger secret character reactions, which are perfect when using the game’s photo mode. Other than traditional Pokémon battles and Tera Raids, the Generation 9 games feature a heavy social aspect. The titles are some of the first to allow a seamless multiplayer experience, especially considering their open-world map. Another feature that complements the Gen 9 games’ social aspect is the ability to take pictures with an in-game tool rather than simply relying on Nintendo Switch’s screenshots. Photo mode has several mini tools that allow for more customization.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are releasing a new mass outbreak event, giving players a chance to get their hands on some Pokemon which are quite hard to find in the wild. It's been quite an eventful month for the games, with the developers releasing the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Epilogue DLC, alongside a new 7-star Tera Raid featuring Blaziken.
A brand new and very real paradox has been introduced to by the events of the DLC. The DLC has introduced several new Paradox Pokémon to the franchise, but a more conceptual contradiction is also clear to see. As a result, feature some undeniable impossibilities in their plot. ’s use of time travel and the resulting Paradox Pokémon makes it clear that the games are far from unfamiliar with the concept of Paradoxes.
With the seven-star Blaziken Tera raids finished, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet revealed a new five-star Tera raid against two Paradox Pokemon to tide trainers over. Flutter Mane and Iron Jugulis will respectively be available for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players to face, and each will bring their share of attacks to the fold.
The 7-Star Blaziken Raid Event in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is a lot harder than it first appears. Blaziken is a fast attacker and gains a speed boost each turn of your battle. Like all of these special raid events, only one Blaziken can be caught per save file. However, you can continue to challenge Blaziken for a chance to get Herba Mystica, Bottle Caps, and Ability Capsules.
Building upon ’s structure with one big change would herald a new era for the franchise. Every new Generation has built upon its predecessors with both mechanical improvements and brand-new features, and Gen 9’s are no different. However, even disregarding the newest games’ infamous glitches, they arguably fall short of their full potential in some respects.
