Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are releasing a new mass outbreak event, giving players a chance to get their hands on some Pokemon which are quite hard to find in the wild. It's been quite an eventful month for the games, with the developers releasing the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Epilogue DLC, alongside a new 7-star Tera Raid featuring Blaziken.
Mass outbreaks have been one of the oldest mechanics in the Pokemon franchise, debuting all the way back in Pokemon Gold and Silver games. Over the years, the feature has been significantly refined, and while it was missing in some iterations in between, it made a return with Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have two kinds of mass outbreaks, one which occurs randomly across the world, and the other which is part of a special event. The last mass outbreak event was held as part of the New Year celebrations in the games. Now, fans will be getting yet another chance to catch a few rare Pokemon in the upcoming event.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be getting a new mass outbreak event featuring Gulpin, Stunky, Skrelp, and Clauncher. The event will kick off on Friday, January 26, and will conclude on January 28, 2024. The mass outbreak event will be taking place in the Paldea region, and playersof either of the two versions will be getting a chance to catch these version-exclusive Pokemon.
While Clauncher and Gulpin are usually exclusive to Scarlet, and Stunky and Skrelp are exclusive to Violet, this gives players a really good opportunity to complete their Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex. However, there is a catch. The Uncommon Mark will only be available for Pokemon in the version to which they are exclusive, while the Rare Mark can be found on Pokemon from the other version. Marks are only cosmetic in nature and do not have any effect on the Pokemon or its move set whatsoever.
In order to access the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet mass outbreak event, an internet connection is required, although a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not necessary. Additionally, since this event will be taking place in Paldea, players do not need to own the expansions to take part in it. To participate, players can simply head to the Poke Portal and then check the latest Poke Portal News from the Mystery Gift section.

In May 2023, a large update to added the compatibility, although the functionality was a bit disappointing in its limitations. Terapagos has remained one of the most mysterious creatures introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but a social media post from the Pokemon Company themselves provides some crucial lore details regarding the creature, seemingly confirming one popular theory among fans. As vital as Terapagos is within the world and story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the games themselves did little to definitively explain the origins of the creature or why it hibernated within the deepest reaches of Area Zero.

The latter in particular launched in such poor condition that Nintendo was forced to issue a public apology.
