Mortal Kombat 1 sweeps its way onto consoles (and PC) on September 14, 2023. With the promise of a few surprises and the addition of the Kameo feature, players are excited to see what the latest instalment in this popular fighting franchise offers – including the identity of the main villain of Mortal Kombat 1. Fans have their own theories about who it could be, but so far, it’s been a closely guarded secret that hasn’t leaked out yet.

The full roster for Mortal Kombat 1 has been leaked, after someone got the Switch version two weeks early.

Series co-creator Ed Boon hints that some main characters will skip Mortal Kombat 1, as the devs hope to "surprise" players. Speaking at Gamescom, Boon says that NetherRealm wants "some characters to have a break" in the upcoming game, suggesting that some series mainstays won't make the roster this time around.

The news that Homelander and Omni-Man would both be in Mortal Kombat 1 sparked a lot of excitement from fans. There's just one problem... they're both kind of similar, right?

NetherRealm Studios has been doing an incredible job building up the hype for Mortal Kombat 1. Between the character trailers that highlight who is Koming and what changes they have and the Kombat Kasts that break down the fighter’s abilities, fans are getting hyped with virtually every week that passes. One recent announcement was the new trailer that heralded the return of Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik. These characters were both fan requests and ones that haven’t been around in a long time. As such, many wondered how the new game would affect their backstories in the new world that Liu Kang had created.

NetherRealm Studios truly went all out when they crafted the new paradigm shift for Mortal Kombat 1. As has been noted, the game focuses on a new world/timeline that Fire God Liu Kang created after getting the powerful hourglass from Kronika in the last game. He spent a long time trying to figure out how to make a world where everything and everyone could be peaceful and have better lives than before. Naturally, it won’t work out as he thinks, but A for Effort, Liu Kang. Due to his changes, many characters have been reborn anew or given entirely new backstories.

A Mortal Kombat 1 leaker called bac736, who revealed Darrius, Sektor, and Cyrax before their announcement, Reptile having a human and lizard form, and Smoke's design, claims that Shujinko is "one of the last Kameos" to be revealed. They sent the Mortal Kombat Leaks subreddit mods pictures to prove the claim, and after viewing the evidence, the mods say "it seems as legit as it can get".

During the EVO 2023 tournament over the weekend, there was quite a bit of fighting game news revealed. Warner Bros. Games and NeatherRealm Studios revealed three more characters for its upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 game that is set to release on September 19. All three of these characters hail from different realms and have been combined into one story-related trailer that has been named The Banished. There is gameplay and story elements revealed here and it also offers a new Kameo Fighter, which brings the total announced to four fighters in this trailer.

It’s a big day for Mortal Kombat 1’s confirmed characters, with six new additions officially unveiled as part of the foray’s first Fighter Pack. And if you’re into guest characters, then you have a trio of unexpected (but previously rumoured) arrivals to look forward to: Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni-Man. Even though this author’s personally not intimately familiar with these characters, the models are very good.

As the past weekend proved, fans of Mortal Kombat 1 have much to look forward to. NetherRealm Studios is slowly fleshing out the new world that Fire God Liu Kang built thanks to his new abilities in the last game, and many are excited about the reveals to come. Adding to that fun was the reveal of the first set of fighters to arrive in the Kombat Pack, including Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker. But among the Kombatants that you are familiar with are Takeda, Quan Chi, and Ermac. Despite the excitement over these characters coming to the game in DLC form, many aren’t happy with the looks of some of them.

San Diego Comic-Con has sadly come and gone, and many fans are still reeling from the “lesser” shown that we got due to the writers/actors strike that prevented certain things from being shown. However, when it came to video games, there were multiple panels that blew the roof off of the place due to the announcements made. Easily the biggest in many respects was Mortal Kombat 1. Ed Boon had teased that there would be big announcements, one of which was a trailer for their next animated movie. But for their upcoming title, the game got two trailers stacked with character reveals.

As spotted by IGN, it's been confirmed at an interview at San Diego Comic-Con last week that JK Simmons—face of Spiderman's J. Jonah Jameson in multiple movies—will be reprising his role as Invincible's Omni-Man for Mortal Kombat 1's DLC.

NetherRealm Studios finally made it official on Friday: Homelander from The Boys, Peacemaker from the DC Universe, and Omni-Man from Invincible will appear as guest characters in Mortal Kombat 1 as part of the game’s first Kombat Pack DLC. Moral Kombat 1's first six DLC fighters have been confirmed, and it's absolutely wild. After months of speculation, it's been confirmed that Homelander is joining the roster, available to pick up an additional cost after the game's launch on September 17, 2023. He's joined by Kombat Kid, Takeda, previous series villain Quan Chi, and more.
