If you haven’t heard, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a really, really good game. Just, so good. When the semi-regular cast of Beyond was asked to decide our best PlayStation game of 2023, several of us immediately blurted out Baldur’s Gate 3, and no one else had any objections. So, there are plenty of write-ups on IGN and elsewhere about why it’s so great, but I wanted to reflect a little on how it seemingly came out of nowhere. Make no mistake, this game is 100% Game of the Year material. It almost was IGN’s overall pick, losing to Zelda by a handful of votes. That said, it seems like a miracle that such a dense, unabashedly technical entry in a 23-years-dormant franchise would have such widespread appeal.

May is fast approaching, and with it comes a fresh new slate of exciting movies and TV to watch. As we while away the last days of April, let’s take stock of the best movies on streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and more that are leaving services this month.

Mortal Kombat 1 has been very slowly dishing out post-launch content since release, adding characters such as Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and most recently, Ermac. However, creator Ed Boon has been keen to remind fans that there are plenty more cool additions where they came from, and after thanking fans for the positive reception to Ermac, Boon gave us a first look at the next character being added to the roster, Homelander.

Ben Affleck’s 2016 action movie The Accountant has a surprisingly big cult following. Despite somewhat lackluster performance at the box office, fans of the movie (including Affleck himself) have been hoping for a sequel for years, and now it finally seems like it’s happening. Amazon MGM and Artists Equity, Affleck’s production company, have acquired the rights to the series from Warner Bros. and are moving forward with The Accountant 2, the companies announced Thursday.

After years of delay, the sequel to Ben Affleck’s 2016 action thriller The Accountant is finally back on track, moving to a new studio and confirming its cast.

Ubisoft has just released Invincible: Guarding the Globe, a free-to-play mobile game for Android and IOS devices. Set in the world of Robert Kirkman’s Invinciblecomic series, the idle squad RPG is available to download now.

The world of is full of scheming villains and horrific evildoers, but sometimes, the characters that are the easiest to hate aren't the ones that are doing the most wicked deeds. Although General Ketheric Thorm is one of the game's most diabolical characters, for example, the iconic vocal performance from J.K. Simmons and crackling dialogue make it easy for him to go down as a favorite. On the other hand, some equally well-portrayed characters just feature such annoying characteristics that comparatively good intentions can't save them from being the punching bags of the community.

Antony Starr says he was open to voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, after it was confirmed that the actor will not be reprising his role for the game's DLC. Responding to a disappointed fan, Starr says, "I was open to it", making his absence in the game all the more baffling.

While the hype that led to Mortal Kombat 1’s arrival has dissipated, as gamers have gotten to experience much of the wonder and brutality that the game has to offer, that’s not to say that the game has nothing left to look forward to. NetherRealm Studios are not novices in extending a game’s worth, and their first Kombat Pack is the best example of what to look forward to. The pack will bring six DLC characters to the mix to bolster the roster and create some dream matches. In November, we got Omni-Man, voiced by J.K. Simmons, and this month, we’re getting the vile sorcerer Quan Chi.

Gloriously violent fighting game Mortal Kombat 1has received a new trailer showing off iconic sorcerer Quan Chi while also giving us a release date for the return of the classic series antagonist. We also got a sneak peek at DC's Peacemaker, who's slated to join the fight in 2024.

The game series has a rich history of in-universe characters, constantly reappearing in new installments, but 's Kombat Pack DLC will only bring three returning characters. The other three will be guest appearances from other media, another series tradition of sorts, albeit a more recent one. The Kombat Pack began rolling out incrementally in November 2023, and is expected to continue beyond summer 2024.

Mortal Kombat games have a history of adding popular cross-media guest DLC characters over the years, many of which are often voiced by their original actors- though things don’t always turn out that way. For instance, though it’s been previously confirmed that Invincible’s Omni-Man and DC’s Peacemaker will be voiced by J.K. Simmons and John Cena respectively when they join Mortal Kombat 1’s roster, fellow DLC guest character Homelander of The Boys fame won’t be voiced by his original actor, Antony Starr.

A new gameplay trailer has been released showing off the upcoming Omni-Man DLC, which is inspired by the Invincible comic book and Prime Video adult animated series and features the voice of actor J. K. Simmons. It will be released on November 9 as the first playable character in the Kombat Pack.

Ostensibly, the newest trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 is about Omni-Man, the first post-launch DLC fighter coming as part of the game’s Kombat Pack. There’s a ton of gameplay, including a longer look at his Fatality, which is inspired by the gruesome subway scene from Invincible in which many innocent train passengers are killed. And there’s a release date for Omni-Man now; he’s coming to Mortal Kombat 1 on Nov. 9.

In an interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Reptile actor Andrew Morgado accidentally let slip that Robert Patrick was filming lines for Mortal Kombat DLC as T-1000, the villainous android shapeshifter from Terminator 2.

To embody a character and give an impeccable performance is more than just doing weird voices and standing in front of a mic. We've known Baldur's Gate 3 was selling extremely well on Steam since day one. After all, Larian's triple-A cRPG broke various concurrency records on Valve's platform, reaching rank #9 on Steam's all-time concurrent player chart with a peak of 814K users. Last Sunday, the game registered a new peak of 875K concurrent users, nearly matching the eighth game on that chart (Hogwarts Legacy, another massive success in this year of records, which peaked at 879K on Steam).

The characters in what we might term the Aperture Cinematic Universe are a memorable bunch (as I have said before). Though GLaDOS rightfully tops the list another, introduced in 2011's sequel spectacular Portal 2, became an instant favourite. Voiced by J.K. Simmons, doing a turn adjacent to his J. J. Jameson from Spider-Man, Cave Johnson is the founder of Aperture Science (which used to primarily make shower curtains before it evolved into being a death trap puzzle company), and he made an instant impression. One of the most spectacular villains we’ve seen yet is Orin the Red, a woman voiced by none other than Maggie Robertson herself, the actor behind Resident Evil’s Lady Dimitrescu.

Larian Studios released a new trailer for Baldur’s Gate 3, focusing on the third antagonist of the story – Orin the Red. Described as a “grandmaster” of murder (if murder were an art), Orin is a shapeshifter and can transform into anyone. She may even be among your party.

Larian Studios is gearing up for Baldur’s Gate 3’s release on PC in just one week. After announcing the third major antagonist earlier this month, the team is giving us a deeper introduction to Orin the Red.

NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat franchise will be receiving a reboot with the upcoming title, Mortal Kombat 1. It is set to hit shelves on September 19 on PC and current-gen consoles, and in the lead-up, some of the characters and gameplay have been revealed.

Alongside the confirmation of which characters will appear in Mortal Kombat 1's first DLC, three more playable characters have been confirmed.

Ed Boon has confirmed that J.K. Simmons will return to reprise his role as Omni-Man when he eventually joins Mortal Kombat 1 as part of the first Kombat Pack.
