Ed Boon has confirmed that J.K. Simmons will return to reprise his role as Omni-Man when he eventually joins Mortal Kombat 1 as part of the first Kombat Pack.
A few days ago, NetherRealm Studios finally pulled back the curtain on its plans for Mortal Kombat 1's first Kombat Pack (a curtain that had already accidentally been pulled by Amazon a few months too early), revealing that Takeda, Ermac, and Quan-Chi would join the game alongside Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man as guest fighters.

As exciting as it was to see these characters getting announced for Mortal Kombat 1, there was one big question on everyone's mind - will the big three guest characters have their authentic voice actors, or are we getting another Terminator situation? Homelander and Peacemaker were clearly modelled after their respective actors, but it wasn't confirmed at the time whether they'd have their iconic voices - thankfully, it seems likely that will end up being the case, as Ed Boon has now confirmed that Omni-Man will be voiced by J.K. Simmons.
As highlighted by Skybound Games on Twitter, Ed Boon confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con after the panel that Omni-Man will indeed be voiced by J.K. Simmons in Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studios' story and voice director Dominic Cianciolo also highlighted the news, saying, "It’s been a thrill and a privilege to direct JK Simmons as Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1. Amazing talent, wonderful person! And for you trivia buffs, the second Oscar winner in a Mortal Kombat game…"
It stands to reason that if NetherRealm was able to get J.K. Simmons back for Mortal Kombat 1, then it will likely have been able to get John Cena and

EVO 2023 has kicked off today and will continue throughout the weekend. This is the fighting game tournament if you’re unfamiliar with the event. Players gather to attempt to go through matches from a series of popular fighting games. Those games include everything from Guilty Gear Strive, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ, to Mortal Kombat 11. That’s just a brief look at some of the video games featured at the tournament. But between the fights, you might spot a reveal. It looks like Ed Boon has something planned for Mortal Kombat fans at this year’s event.
Ed Boon is seemingly teasing on Twitter (surprise surprise) that Reptile is going to be the next character announced for Mortal Kombat 1 during EVO.
The fighting game genre has many notable franchises. One of the earliest to earn iconic status is Mortal Kombat. It punched its way onto the arcade scene in 1992 and quickly found its way to the home console market, wowing players with at-the-time realistic visuals and controversial over–the–top gore. That controversial content ushered in the now-industry standard ratings system, but Mortal Kombat’s legacy has been defined by much more than that. For over 11 mainline installments, the series built gameplay innovations and an ever-growing roster atop its core 1-on-1 fighting system.
Mortal Kombat fans are waiting on the next major installment to land in the marketplace later this year. However, we’re still in the dark if you’re itching to see the entire roster. But fortunately, NetherRealm Studios has been teasing fans with new character reveals over a series of teasers and trailers. Today, we’re finding out that the roster should contain a total of 24 fighters, according to a new report from Temple of Geek that surfaced online. This publication managed to speak with Dominic Cianciolo, the story director behind the upcoming game at SDCC.
Mortal Kombat 1’s latest playable character reveal sees the time-controlling sand master Geras return after making his debut in Mortal Kombat 11.
Mortal Kombat fans think that they've spotted a few details in Geras' reveal trailer that point towards Mortal Kombat 1 having a gear customisation system.
Mortal Kombat 1 has already given fans a lot to get excited about. Whether you're a Mileena stan or a hardcore 3D-era defender, MK1 has something for everyone. Well, as long as you're not a cyber ninja fan. Sektor and Cyrax are in the game, but so far, they're reduced to Kameo fighters, not playable in their own right.
Single player story modes tend to be the weakest parts of most fighting games, but the Mortal Kombat franchise has traditionally been the biggest exception to that rule. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 is looking like it’s going to continue that tradition, and its promise of a new and rebooted universe has certainly got series fans more than a little excited- but how lengthy will the game’s story mode be?
Mortal Kombat fans have some pretty mixed feelings about Kuai Liang being Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1's new timeline, with some waiting to see how the story handles it and others already mourning Hanzo Hazashi.
Gleefully over-the-top violence has been Mortal Kombat’s MO for as long as the series has been around, and given how crucial it’s become to its very identity, every new game in the franchise is expected to up the ante on that front in new ways. Mortal Kombat 1 is, to one’s surprise, looking like an another festival of carnage and viscera in all that we’ve seen of it so far, and it seems that will extend to a rather unique minigame as well.
NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat franchise will be receiving a reboot with the upcoming title, Mortal Kombat 1. It is set to hit shelves on September 19 on PC and current-gen consoles, and in the lead-up, some of the characters and gameplay have been revealed.
