Hideo Kojima announced a new “action-espionage game” named Physint at Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event last month. And to hear the founder of Kojima Productions describe it, Physint sure sounds a lot like a new take on Metal Gear, the stealth series that Kojima created, but taken to its extremes.

And now, in a new episode of his HideoTube web series, the designer has explained how a period of sickness and surgery — and thoughts of his own mortality — convinced him to 'change his priorities' and do something fans had been asking him to do for years.

After the split between Hideo Kojima and Konami, Metal Gear fans were left without the icon at the helm. Hideo has helped bring out so many memorable installments that it was bitter news that he was leaving the studio. But after establishing Kojima Productions, we saw Hideo deliver Death Stranding into the marketplace. We also have a sequel in the works, but beyond that, there’s the surprising return to the action espionage setting with Physint. 

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s most recent trailer made it abundantly clear that the game, unlike its predecessor, isn’t going to be set in the United State of America (or the United Cities of America, as it’s known in Death Stranding’s fiction), but exactly how far away from that setting is the sequel going to take players? Mexico was mentioned a few times in the game’s trailer, so does that mean Sam and co. will still be somewhere in North America?

The new game is a major horror venture from Hideo Kojima and genre expert Jordan Peele, and it sounds like there might be some real-world haunting to cast the right sort of specter over development. Revealed at the Game Awards 2023, marks Kojima's return to horror after the canceled game that he was working on with Guillermo del Toro in the early 2010s. This time, is in the hands of the independent studio Kojima Productions rather than Konami, so shouldn't run the same risk of meeting its doom too early.

The newest trailer for is a fascinating window into the game, and it seems like star Norman Reedus shares that sentiment. As the actor who lends face, voice, and motion capture to the role of Sam Porter Bridges, Norman Reedus has one of the most direct windows into the world of that anyone besides director Hideo Kojima himself can boast. When it comes to the PlayStation State of Play trailer for the game, however, it seems like Reedus was in for some surprises of his own.

Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima's surreal package delivery title that first launched as a PlayStation exclusive in 2019 and later ported to PC, has a new release date on Apple devices. The Director's Cut version of the game is arriving January 30 on iPhone, iPad and Mac, with pre-orders currently open, 505 Games announced Tuesday. The studio, which was also responsible for the PC port, will bring the Kojima Productions' title to compatible apple devices. These include the A17 Pro-powered iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and macOS devices running on M1 chip or later. Death Standing was first announced for Apple platforms at the company's WWDC event in June last year, where Kojima showed off Mac gameplay and promised support for future titles.

Metal Gear Solid, the series that put famed developer Hideo Kojima on the map, recently celebrated its whopping 25th anniversary. To mark the milestone birthday, Kojima sneaked onto social media to reveal various tidbits about the classic stealth up ‘em, including the various ways he had to cut costs on the project.

On his 60th birthday, Hideo Kojima is celebrating by telling fans he has no plans to retire and plans to "create things" for the rest of his life. 

In scenes reminiscent of a convoluted codec conversation, Konami has been tying itself up in knots about what exactly players can expect from Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection Vol. 1. It's now issued a statement to VGC clarifying the target spec for the games is 1080p and 60FPS on PC, following erroneous reports (based on what Konami reps said) that the games would be running at lower resolutions and framerates.

Whether in the incest themes in Otacon's backstory or the series' overall leering approach to women, Metal Gear Solid is no stranger to controversy. Noting this, Konami has seen fit to include a content warning in the opening of each of the major games in the collection, which include Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3 as well as versions of the original 8-bit games.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 seems to have left everything from the original games intact, but comes with a warning that some of the content may be "considered outdated" to modern audiences. The game advises "player discretion", clearly feeling that some aspects of the games have aged poorly.

For all its ups and downs, Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding remains a unique experience, especially with fans discovering new things almost four years after its release. It makes the wait for Death Stranding 2 much more palpable, but we still lack much information.

Death Stranding 2 has been completely rewritten following the coronavirus pandemic, director and Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima explains. With the Death Stranding 2 release date still on the horizon, and also confirmation of a film adaptation, the open-world game will reportedly challenge the various ideas of the original Death Stranding while also altering the meaning of the term ‘stranding.’ It all sounds suitably mysterious, but similarly, Death Stranding 2 is shaping up to be another compelling work from the MGS master.
