Hideo Kojima says it will be "difficult" to adapt Death Stranding into a movie, but hits like Super Mario Bros. have given him hope

When gaming icon Hideo Kojima talks, people listen. The Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator is currently riding high after a stupendously great Death Stranding 2: On the Beach reveal and the Disney Plus premiere of the documentary Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds. But now he has what at first glance appears to be a very spicy take on Oscar Isaac.

Hideo Kojima dropped a bombshell at the end of January, announcing that — alongside development of Death Stranding 2 — he would also be returning to the action-espionage genre that put him on the map with the Metal Gear series, in the form of Physint for PlayStation 5. And now, in a new episode of his HideoTube web series, the designer has explained how a period of sickness and surgery — and thoughts of his own mortality — convinced him to 'change his priorities' and do something fans had been asking him to do for years.

After the split between Hideo Kojima and Konami, Metal Gear fans were left without the icon at the helm. Hideo has helped bring out so many memorable installments that it was bitter news that he was leaving the studio. But after establishing Kojima Productions, we saw Hideo deliver Death Stranding into the marketplace. We also have a sequel in the works, but beyond that, there’s the surprising return to the action espionage setting with Physint. 

Hideo Kojima announced a new “action-espionage game” named Physint at Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event last month. And to hear the founder of Kojima Productions describe it, Physint sure sounds a lot like a new take on Metal Gear, the stealth series that Kojima created, but taken to its extremes.
