Hideo Kojima says he was "opposed by peers, colleagues, and relatives" when he decided to go independent

There are quite a few iconic game developers that have gained a massive following worldwide. One of those iconic developers is Hideo Kojima, who has had his hand in several titles and franchises. Since their departure from Konami, it seems Kojima can really flex his creative muscles. What came to fruition after his leave from Konami was Death Stranding, which had its own unique gameplay experience. But expect things to be even more out there when Hideo Kojima releases his next new IP, OD, into the marketplace. 

Hideo Kojima has taken to social media with comments about his "most experimental game," and in the process has revealed that a whole lot of his fans don't actually know his back catalog very well.

Game designer Hideo Kojima has been discussing his legacy of creating “experimental” games, and has teased that the upcoming horror project, OD, will be “just as different.”

When it first leaked as Overdose, it was believed that Kojima Productions’ new IP would be a horror title, albeit one with director Hideo Kojima’s signature twists (and potentially related to Death Stranding). However, upon its reveal as OD, it’s looking to be a lot more complicated than initially believed. The developer trademarked terms like Social Scream System and Social Stealth, and it’s confirmed to utilize Xbox’s cloud-native technology.

A new year has begun, which, as always, means several developers from across the industry have provided brief updates on what the coming months are going to have in store for them. Hideo Kojima is in that list as well, and in a recent New Year message published on Twitter, he has touched on the upcoming Death Stranding 2 and its development.

Following his departure from Konami, Hideo Kojima launched an independent career. It seems to have been a smart choice though, as he recently revealed, it wasn’t easy to convince others that it was possible.

Death Stranding is coming to the big screen, thanks to a partnership between indie film studio A24 and game developer Kojima Productions. The announcement comes ahead of the Hideo Kojima-helmed studio's 8th anniversary. The film adaptation will focus on the mysteries surrounding the titular apocalyptic event that brought the nightmarish creatures called BT into the living world, blurring the lines between the dead and the living through a portal. Instead of a direct translation of the divisive 2019 video game, the film will serve as a companion piece that further expands the solitary universe. The world of Death Stranding is also set to return in DS2, a sequel announced at last year's The Game Awards.

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding live-action movie adaptation is really happening, and now A24, the studio behind Everything Everywhere All at Once, Uncut Gems, and Hereditary, is involved. Kojima Productions and A24 announced their collaboration on Thursday, offering new details about their Death Stranding movie and further reinforcing that, yeah, this this is actually happening.

A24 has partnered with Kojima Productions to bring the live-action Death Stranding film to life.
