borrows a lot of things from the first game, but skips out on multiple enemy factions — not just the Illuminate. At launch and up until the time of writing, Helldivers 2 has had two enemy factions: the Terminids (Bugs) and the Automatons (Bots). However, with the recent total success of the Major Order "", it appears the Automatons have finally been eradicated once and for all. Of course, there's always a chance they'll return, but for the time being, players are left to wonder what comes next.
Editor's Note: Automatons have officially been reintroduced to the game, according to a recent tweet by the developers on X. The original article is as follows:
Since day one, has teased the Illuminate's upcoming addition to the game. A highly intelligent, cephalopod-like alien race, the Illuminate were among the most dangerous factions in the original. While there's lots of speculation on social media about the seemingly impending arrival of the Illuminate, there's little talk about another missing faction from the first game in the series. However, recent in-game events suggest they may come back — and very soon.
There's plenty of evidence to suggest that the Cyborg faction from the original game could be coming to soon. Much like the Automatons, Cyborgs are mechanized units. They're known for their heavy armor and advanced weaponry, which makes them arguably one of the more difficult factions in the game. In lore, Cyborgs are said to be secessionists from Super Earth, rejecting its propaganda and attempting to recruit traitors to their side. They're also not above harvesting the bodies of fallen Helldivers, reviving them and rewiring them to support mindless violence in the name of the Cyborg cause.
But like the Illuminate, there appear to be no Cyborgs in — at least, not yet. Many players have speculated that they were simply replaced by a similar faction, the Automatons, in the sequel. However, the truth may be far more complicated, and Cyborgs could simply be waiting beyond the reaches of known space waiting to strike.
Some players, like Reddit user littleNorthStar, have already pointed out that there are unused regions of 's map that a new faction could easily occupy. Traditionally, Automatons have occupied the regions northwest of Super Earth on the galactic map, and Terminids the regions northeast. However, this leaves huge swathes of southward territory uncontested, which would be the perfect battleground for a new faction to claim.
There's plenty of reason to suspect that a faction from the first game will make a return in an upcoming update to . This may even come with an expansion of known space, with further planets and sectors added to the galactic map to accommodate the new faction's

players who enjoy firing massive lasers at their enemies are out of luck because the latest balance update just introduced some major nerfs while also making some interesting tweaks to certain missions. Arrowhead Studios has demonstrated its passion for live-service support by issuing dozens of patches that accomplish small goals like fixing bugs and glitches to introducing larger changes like the addition of new enemies and weapons. While the community wasn't too pleased with the previous balance update, the most recent attempt to level the playing feel is seemingly going down much smoother.
is an incredible game, there's no doubt about that, but one aspect that developer Arrowhead Studios has promised to re-evaluate is the implementation of the «auto-climb» mechanic that has frustrated many since launch. To help facilitate more tactical gameplay without sacrificing too much in the way of speed, incorporates a system that allows players to automatically vault onto or over an obstacle that gets in their way while sprinting. While it works most of the time, when it decides to grow a mind of its own the consequences can be extremely annoying.
may be a game solely committed to boots-on-the-ground combat, but one industrious fan has an incredible vision for how space combat and dogfighting could function. While Arrowhead Studios' third-person shooter is riddled with starships and cruisers, even giving players their own Super Destroyer to travel the pathways between planets, it's not actually possible to use these vessels to battle enemies. It may be too much to expect from the developers, given the scale of such an addition, but some kind of space battle mechanic would be amazing, especially if it takes its cues from this fan's video.
took the gaming industry by storm back in February 2024, quickly gaining a dedicated fanbase and community around the live-service title. Although it still boasts an impressive player base, a couple of months later, the numbers have begun to dwindle from the initial highs that it once enjoyed. This is to be expected with any title since the gaming industry moves on quickly, and games cannot be expected to hold onto unsustainable numbers, but there is something can do to stem the bleeding.
already provides players with plenty of powerful weapons to help spread managed democracy around the galaxy, butone player wants to hone in on one of the game's most powerful weapons that was tragically nerfed into oblivion. Following 's launch in February 2024, developer Arrowhead Studio was quick to issue a post-launch balance patch that made certain weapons less effective and some enemies more powerful. The Railgun, which was hailed by many as being the strongest firearm available, was severely affected by the update as its incredible damage decreased significantly.
Despite the massive, unexpected success of , the game's overwhelming popularity and fast-paced content release schedule might be turning into a double-edged sword. A sequel to the less-known developed by Arrowhead Games Studios, previously best known for their series, exploded in popularity shortly after its release, taking the industry — and the developers themselves — by surprise. Since then, the game has managed to maintain a large and active playerbase to participate in its ongoing galactic war, but some of the game's bigger issues might be falling by the wayside.
's second DLC,, adds a whole new region to its map — but in terms of size, that could mean many different things. Although it has a pretty sizable world map, is not an open-world game. Each region varies in size, and is connected to the next one only in limited, specified areas, and players can't travel to most of them until they unlock new areas through the story. Despite this linearity, most map regions open up completely as soon as they're unlocked, providing plenty of opportunity for exploration.
is about to become even more difficult as the game's latest mission type forces players to go up against some of the Automaton's most powerful units. While the kinds of enemies players will encounter in are largely determined by the difficulty of the mission they embark upon, users who want to farm some of the rare resources will need to run through some of the more brutal settings to upgrade their ship modules. Unfortunately, that now means going head-to-head against Factory Striders with the primary goal being to bring down the walking tanks.
may be a game about shooting Bugs and Bots with an assortment of deadly firearms but players hoping to charge into the fray with nothing but a melee weapon shouldn't give up hope just yet. Ever since the incredibly popular sequel in early 2024, the community has begged Arrowhead Studios to include some kind of sword as an unlockable weapon and since the studio hasn't done so yet, the demands have just grown louder. Fortunately, those diehard saber enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the developers are still looking into the idea.
Since its release in early February, has taken the world by storm thanks to its one-of-a-kind premise and endlessly fun gameplay. No co-op game in history has ever encouraged teamwork on such a grand scale, pushing its players to work together to achieve the ultimate goal. In a world where many games are incomplete and released in poor condition, is saving modern gaming by constantly giving its player base reasons to come back.
The latest Ship Module adds another buff to what's already one of its most powerful Stratagems. Together, Ship Modules and Stratagems make up the build customization options in . Stratagems refer to any number of special abilities players can call in during a mission. They range from powerful weapons to defensive fortifications to orbital strikes, and can turn the tide of battle in a wide variety of ways. However, Stratagems usually have lengthy cooldowns, and some of them only have a limited number of uses. It's important to know when and where to call them in.
