The various issues with the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 will be fixed, series co-creator Ed Boon says.
The game was released on Tuesday, but in the days before that players with the Premium Edition had early access, and were questioning the Switch version’s performance.
While the Switch version was never expected to go toe-to-toe with the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions visually, its graphical downgrades combined with significant performance issues have left some commenters questioning why Nintendo players are being asked to pay $70 for what appears to be a clearly inferior product.
In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Boon says issues with the Switch version will be fixed, promising it will “absolutely be getting an update”.
“A number of the the concerns of the issues that had come up will absolutely be addressed,” Boon promised.
“It would have been ideal for us to have released the version that we absolutely wanted. But anything that we’re finding a problem with is on our list and is going to be fixed.”

The current-gen versions of the game have been well received by critics, garnering 88 (Xbox Series X/S) and 86 (PS5) scores on review aggregation site Metacritic. Few Switch reviews have been published so far, but those that have are generally negative.
Nintendo Life’s review, which awards the game 4/10, says: “There are frame rate issues, big resolution dips, input and timing problems related to performance drops, missing content, game-breaking bugs in Invasion mode, long loading times, and unresponsive menus.”
It concludes: “If you are a huge Mortal Kombat fan whose only option is Switch, you may be able to press through all of this. However, if you have any other option, we suggest you stay away from this one for now.”
