Mortal Kombat fans are already getting through the latest installment available. After Mortal Kombat 11, the development team over at NetherRealm Studios opted to do something a bit different. We’re getting a reboot with Mortal Kombat 1, where the focus is on a brand new timeline. As a result, there are several changes, such as new alliances for different characters. Fortunately, NetherRealm Studios is known for delivering new characters into the Mortal Kombat games after they release, and the same trend will continue with Mortal Kombat 1.
The question some fans might be asking is just when we’ll get our next big reveal. Today, we’re finding out that Ed Boon, the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, has once again left a cryptic message online. Ed Boon is known for teasing fans of what might be coming soon. Some teases are quick to be uncovered, while others can have fans discussing potential possibilities online. Today, thanks to a report from Gamerant, we’re discovering that Ed Boon’s latest set of X posts might indicate a reveal during New York Comic Con.
Ran into some unexpected issues trying to push the P1advantage patch. Since we didn't want to risk the game's stability over the weekend… its looking like early next week now. Thanks for your patience.

There are a few Comic Con events that garner quite a bit of attention. You, of course, have the big one, San Diego Comic Con. However, New York Comic Con is also quite notable. In an X post, Ed Boon left a message stating Next Patch Will Yield Cwik Corrections. The capitals spell out NYCC, which has fans looking towards this event later in the month for a big announcement. With that said, we already know that it won’t be OmniMan gameplay footage, as Ed noted this won’t be featured at the event.
While OmniMan will be one of the first DLC characters added to the game, this event could lean towards the spooky season. A previous tease from Ed Boon showcased a few horror movie icons that have yet to make their way into Mortal Kombat. Perhaps this event will confirm one of these characters coming to the game franchise next. Unfortunately, we’ll just have to wait for the actual event to take place, which kicks off on October 12, 2023.
In the meantime, if you have yet to play through Mortal Kombat 1, the video game is readily available for purchase on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms. We also have a Before You Buy video coverage, which you can view below.

Yes, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes halted production on a lot of TV and movies this year. But the last few months of 2023 will still be packed with major releases, many of which got initial screenings at this year’s New York Film Festival. Polygon crammed in as many of these new releases as we could during the festival, and we’re here with a preview of upcoming movies worth noting — the standouts, good and bad, from the next few months of major movie releases.

Think, Liu Kang!
Mortal Kombat 1 had been teasing, and not teasing, various things that they would show at New York Comic Con. Ed Boon himself deconfirmed several things that wouldn’t be shown at the convention, and many felt this meant we wouldn’t get any look at the upcoming DLC characters for the game via its first Kombat Pack. However, NetherRealm Studios DID show something from the Kombat Pack at the show: the first look at Omni-Man! His inclusion in the game had long been rumored before it was officially confirmed alongside other key DLC characters, and his “first look” trailer shows just how brutal things will get.
Mortal Kombat 1's upcoming DLC character, Omni-Man, has received his own first-look trailer, showing off a selection of vicious attacks and appropriately bloody finishers.
Mortal Kombat 1 has debuted its first post-launch character Omni-Man from the Robert Kirkman comic book Invincible. NetherRealm Studios dropped the gameplay trailer during the New York Comic Con 2023 event, revealing a set of brutal moves that were pulled straight from the eponymous animated series adaptation on Amazon Prime Video. The villainous character will be available as a standalone fighter in November, accessible to those who bought the Premium Edition of the game or the Kombat Pack DLC separately. Actor J.K. Simmons is also reprising his role and voicing Omni-Man for Mortal Kombat 1.
NetherRealm has shown off the first look at Omni-Man, a DLC character coming to Mortal Kombat 1.
Mortal Kombat and Invincible fans are celebrating how well Omni-Man has been adapted for Mortal Kombat 1, with particular praise going towards his suitably caked-up cheeks.
Mortal Kombat 1’s first post-launch character, Omni-Man from Robert Kirkman’s Invincible, arrives this November, developer NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros. Games revealed Saturday at New York Comic Con. Omni-Man’s first gameplay trailer shows the alien superhero dispatching Scorpion and Liu Kang in gruesome ways — ways that will be familiar to anyone who’s watched Invincible’s goriest moments.
The first Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters have finally been showcased in a brand-new trailer.
New York City is home to both Spider-Man and one of the more significant comic book events in the world, New York Comic-Con, which is on right now in the Big Apple. With the eagerly anticipated Marvel's Spider-Man 2 out this time next week (on 20th October), it was practically inevitable we'd see something from Insomniac at the show.
