A Mortal Kombat 1 leaker has claimed that the mystery character who was spotted standing behind Raiden and Johnny Cage in the latest trailer is actually Shujinko from Mortal Kombat Deception.
NetherRealm might have managed to keep quiet about Mortal Kombat 1's development in the years since Mortal Kombat 11, but it's been quite the leaky ship since then. Not only did the game's existence get leaked by a Warner Bros. earnings call before it was announced, but since then we've seen leaks for the game's roster (albeit some that have since been disproved), Kameos, story details, and even whole game modes.

As reported by Twitter user thetiny, the latest Mortal Kombat 1 leak is something that's rather interesting and seems to clear up one of the big mysteries that has recently been surrounding the game - the identity of the mysterious fighter that's standing behind Johnny Cage and Raiden in the game's latest trailer, which the leak claims might actually be Shujinko, the protagonist of Mortal Kombat Deception.
When that trailer launched, several fans pointed out the character, who hadn't been seen in any other trailer. At first it seemed as if they could just be a random monk associated with Raiden or Kung Lao who wasn't worth focusing on, but then Ed Boon purposefully pointed him out in a tweet, signifying he might be someone more important.
According to a recent leak that's cropped up and been shared by thetiny, that character might actually be Deception's Shujinko, who is seemingly one of the game's Kameo fighters. In a tweet, thetiny shared several images of some of the game's remaining unrevealed Kameos, including Motaro and Sareena. The final photo of the tweet shows a picture of who appears to be Shujinko, as well as a close-up of the mysterious fighter everyone was trying to identify, implying that they are one and the same.
It's not entirely clear how the character, who appears to be young when we first see them, turns into the old man version of Shujinko that we all know and love by the end of the game, but considering Mortal Kombat 1 appears to be dealing with time travel and timelines once again, it's likely something that happens in the game's story.
Adding validity to the leak is the claim from thetiny that they've actually seen these images before and have heard about some of the Kameos who have seemingly just been leaked. They also warn that there are bigger story spoilers out there, which we won't be sharing or commenting on here. If you're trying to avoid story spoilers, however, it looks like now is the time to be extra careful.
