Since its reveal earlier this year, Mortal Kombat 1 has been unveiling its star-studded cast, one big name after another. Between J.K. Simmons reprising the role of Omni-Man from Invincible to John Cena being confirmed as Peacemaker, the roster is looking to be fierce in terms of both fighters and their actors. Warner Bros. Games revealed one more member of the cast in September: Megan Fox, of Transformers (2007) and Jennifer’s Body (2009) fame will be playing the role of Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1 .
For those who haven’t touched a Mortal Kombat game since Deadly Alliance , Nitara is a winged vampire who hails from a realm called Vaeternus. It’d appear she’s up to the same old antics, as the Nitara trailer showcases the vampiress fighting against Ashrah, Kung Lao, and more. “I grew up playing Mortal Kombat and I can’t believe that I’m voicing a character in the new game,” said Fox. “It’s an honor to be a part of one of the greatest video game legacies of all time.“
Again, Deadly Alliance was the last time fans of the series have been able to play as the winged vampire until now; though she was mentioned or referenced in Mortal Kombat: Deception , Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11 . Nitara was also present in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, where she was played by Mel Jarnson.
Mortal Kombat 1 releases on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

NetherRealm Studios promised a hard reboot of the franchise in Mortal Kombat 1. While it’s clear the characters, story, and environments have all received updates, the developer also keeps what worked in previous games, refusing to tinker with the heart and soul of the title. In many ways, this helps the fighting game feel fresh in the right places but still possesses everything that brought it to the party to begin with. The excitement was palpable when Megan Fox was announced to play Nitara in Mortal Kombat 1. It seemed like the perfect pick, especially given her role in Jennifer's Body, but the tide has turned as voice lines and in-game footage have come to light. Now, some fans are going as far as to say her performance is worse than Mortal Kombat 11's Sonya.
It's pretty much expected nowadays for the majority of the big fighting games to have some kind of cross-play support, what with them being primarily multiplayer focused experiences. Street Fighter 6 had crossplay at launch, as will Tekken 8 when that releases next year, but it seems like Mortal Kombat 1 fans will have to wait a little bit before they can go a few rounds with someone on a different platform.

Ahead of the game's release, NetherRealm has released the official launch trailer, featuring four minutes of new gameplay, fatalities, gore, and more.

Somehow, a content creator managed to get hold of a copy of the game early, and proceeded to stream himself playing the story mode. Spoilers are being shared online, so watch out for story details if you want to go in blind.
