The reveal trailer’s actually pretty awesome, and includes a couple of references to Fox’s famous 2009 movie Jennifer’s Body, because of course it does! This isn’t the first time the developer’s turned to Hollywood to bring some of its brawlers to life: MMA fighter turned wrestler Ronda Rousey starred as Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11, of course.
Nitara hasn’t been a playable character since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on PS2, although she did make a brief cameo in a cut-scene of the previous game. It’s pretty cool to see the Vampire of the Underworld return to the roster, then – and as Fox has admitted to some pretty weird blood drinking rituals with her beau Machine Gun Kelly in real-life, we, er, can’t think of a better actress to play the part!

@Northern_munkey Yeah but does Kate Beckinsdale engage in real-life blood drinking rituals? Exactly!
Wow, such emotion and gravitas behind each of her lines. I can see why she beat out Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep for the part.

NetherRealm Studios promised a hard reboot of the franchise in Mortal Kombat 1. While it’s clear the characters, story, and environments have all received updates, the developer also keeps what worked in previous games, refusing to tinker with the heart and soul of the title. In many ways, this helps the fighting game feel fresh in the right places but still possesses everything that brought it to the party to begin with. (It’s like experiencing passion fruit with Sprite rather than soda water for the first time.)
It's pretty much expected nowadays for the majority of the big fighting games to have some kind of cross-play support, what with them being primarily multiplayer focused experiences. Street Fighter 6 had crossplay at launch, as will Tekken 8 when that releases next year, but it seems like Mortal Kombat 1 fans will have to wait a little bit before they can go a few rounds with someone on a different platform.
