Last year, months before Homelander was even revealed, Antony Starr confirmed that he wouldn't be voicing his iconic The Boys character in Mortal Kombat 1.
The community was outraged; many even swore off the DLC because they couldn't imagine Homelander without Starr. But now that we've seen him in action, things have changed, and fans are so happy with his design, the nods to the show, and how he plays, that they don't care anymore.
The trailer opens with Homelander guzzling milk from a bottle, and if you've seen the show, you know he doesn't source it from Tesco. Ferra is suspiciously enthusiastic, jumping up and down with glee, but maybe she doesn't know that.
It then cuts to a clash between the 'The World's Greatest Superhero' and Fire God Liu Kang, and while Starr hasn't reprised the role (though he was open to it), the voice in the pre-match banter sounds incredibly similar. So, it's easy to see why so many are pushing their doubts to the side now.
"I don't even know anymore if [Starr] is or not, I mean I know he confirmed that he isn't [voicing Homelander], but it just sounds so much like [him]," averagegowenjoyer commented, confused at how good the impression is.
"I've said it before and I feel like people are nitpicking only because they know it's not Antony Starr voicing him," mf_named_karl said. "If you showed this to someone who doesn't know it's not voiced by him, they'd probably go, 'Wow, it's Antony Starr in MK1!' The voice sounds fine to me and it's only clear when I'm listening to it to nitpick".
The character model looks good and fatalities look great and hopefully, gameplay will be good too. I don't wanna let Antony not voicing him ruin the whole thing for me.
"I'm fine with it," Grand_Toast_Dad added. "As long as whoever's voicing him can make him sound menacing enough, and not be as bad as Arnie's Terminator in MK11."
We don't know when Homelander is coming to the game yet, but for once, it looks like fans are excited to find out.
