One of the best things about Mortal Kombat games, and one of the main things that sets it apart from other famous fighting series, is its brutal fatalities. Finishing cinematics characters deploy to confirm they have won the match. Whether it be ripping out an opponent's spine, skull still attached, or freezing them solid so they can be shattered into a thousand pieces, there have been some very cool fatalities over the years, pun very much intended. Some of them will return for Mortal Kombat 1, including a fan favorite courtesy of Cyrax.
As we near the next Mortal Kombat game's release date, NetherRealm has been showing off more and more of what the game has to offer. Showcased on the Mortal Kombat 1 Highlights YouTube channel, Kung Lao calls upon Cyrax to use his fatality and finish the fight. Enter Cyrax, looking incredibly casual considering what he is about to do, who proceeds to emit bombs from his chest, scattering them all over the floor around both himself and the opponent.

Turns out the proximity of the bombs from Cyrax and Kung Lao wouldn't have mattered all that much. Right before they explode, the shot zooms out and shows a massive explosion covering most of the Earth before the planet then blows up entirely, so killing not only everyone involved in the fight but everyone on the planet. The game then informs the player there has been a fatality because yeah, of course there has.
Despite how amusing and over the top it is - two key ingredients for any Mortal Kombat fatality - its appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 will be only the third time it has ever been used in the series. Shinnox has put together a handy video (thanks, Event Hubs) that shows all three Cyber Bomb fatalities in the series side-by-side, or rather stacked on top of one another. The first time was in Mortal Kombat 3, it was then dusted off for Mortal Kombat Gold, and the third clip is the one above from Mortal Kombat 1.
More news about Mortal Kombat 1 has been coming thick and fast since Ed Boon appeared during Gamescom's Opening Night Live. Turns out Hanzo will be in the game after all, just not in the way you might have expected, a first look at Sindel has been revealed, and it has been confirmed that the Elder Gods are still around, although no one is entirely sure why.
