May’s PlayStation Plus Essential games include EA Sports FC 24

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the May 2024 Game Catalog lineup for Extra and Premium subscribers, and Classics Catalog titles for Premium subscribers.

Red Dead Redemption 2, Deceive Inc., Crime Boss: Rockay City, Stranded: Alien Dawn, and many more titles are available from May 21. We’re also announcing new classic titles coming to PlayStation Plus Premium. 

The newly-released day one PlayStation Plus Extra game Animal Well is now one of the highest-rated video games of the year. Compared to competitor Xbox Game Pass, it's relatively rare for PlayStation Plus Extra to add day one games. However, there are indeed times when PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers are treated to brand-new, day one releases, with some fantastic games added as day one releases in the past.

A new report is bad news for subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, as data suggests that spending on those services has been stalled for nearly a year. Microsoft and Sony have both bet big on PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, with Microsoft in particular going all-in on Game Pass. Xbox Game Pass is a cornerstone of Microsoft's current gaming strategy, with the company bolstering the service through the release of massive, day one games.

The wait may have been longer than some expected, but the free PlayStation Plus games for May 2024 are finally available for subscribers to claim. As always, the monthly free PlayStation Plus games are available to all subscribers, regardless of tier.

May’s first batch of PlayStation Plus games are now available to claim.

PlayStation Plus subscribers have one last chance to claim the free PS Plus games for April 2024, even though it's already May 6. New PlayStation Plus free games are rotated in on a monthly basis. The previous PS Plus free games are available until the first Tuesday of the following month, and so Monday, May 6 marks the last day that subscribers can snag the free games that were available in April 2024.

Sony recently added a free trial for one of the most controversial games of 2024 to PlayStation Plus Premium, meaning members of the service can give Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League a shot without having to spend a single extra penny. Though some may have preferred a more well-received game to be added instead, trials like these allow PlayStation Plus players to test out divisive games and make judgments for themselves on titles they may not have touched otherwise.

Unfortunately for PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers, it seems an additional seven games are leaving the service, bringing the total to a whopping 34 games that are on their way out. PlayStation Plus Extra games are removed on a monthly basis, but 34 is still a lot of games to see go removed all at one time. All 34 games are expected to be removed from the PlayStation Plus Extra tier on Tuesday, May 21.

Sony is removing Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue this month.

Sony has announced the lineup of free games coming to PlayStation Plus in May. This month's PS Plus offerings include four titles, led by popular football sim EA Sports FC 24. Other free games for May include action-platformer Ghostrunner 2, isometric action-adventure title Tunic and online shooter Destiny 2: Lightfall. All four titles will be available to PS Plus members across Essential, Extra and Deluxe/Premium tiers from May 7.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is set to leave PlayStation Plus' Extra tier catalog within the month of May 2024. The remake of developer Big Huge Games' classic action RPG will soon depart from the PlayStation Plus library in addition to the 25 titles already scheduled to disappear from the service throughout the coming weeks.
