Lost Ark is getting the second of its two big December updates tomorrow, with the Ivory Tower patch. The new Ivory Tower of Chaos Abyssal Dungeon arrives, along with the new Elixir system, some winter specials, and more.
Downtime is set to begin tomorrow at 1:00 AM PT/10 PM ET tonight and last for about four hours. Once the update is live, the new Abyssal Dungeon becomes available in both Normal and Hard difficulties;located in Voldis. It has four gates to progress past, with required item level starting at 1600 for Normal. Rewards for successful completion include honing materials, gold, and for the first time, materials for the new Elixir system.
The Elixir system and the new Abyssal Dungeon are intricately tied together, so it makes sense that the team decided to split the December update this way.
The new feature is designed to allow you to add special bonuses to your gear by using those materials you get as drops. Epic Elixirs come from Normal mode, while Legendary Elixirs are from–you guessed it–Hard mode. You will have to refine the elixirs through gold and Chaos Stones, potentially getting advice from the three Sages of the Tower to guide you to the best possible outcome. You’ll also be able to craft elixirs and transmute them in the new, wide-ranging system that will take some time to learn, but which aims to offer more depth in build customization.
You have a set number of tries for each attempt at refinement and those stages can help you understand the new system. When you've successfully refined an Elixir you can use it on your equipment to get bonus effects. There are rules here and both common effect and part-specific effects, the latter you can only get when you use a certain piece of gear.
With the introduction of the system only 1525 Ancient gear that you earn from the Akkan Legion Raid can be imbued with elixir benefits at this time. If you succeed, you can choose up to five abilities for each elixir and apply two per piece of equipment.
The update also features a few changes that will help reduce some of the costs of upgrading a gear set effect, and a number of festive winter shop updates. These include a few winter sale bundles and holiday packs with cosmetics and in-game items at discounts.
