With Baldur’s Gate 3 agonizingly within touching distance now, the founder of developer Larian Studios says the team will definitely look to return to its defining universe in the future. The success of Divinity Original Sin saw Larian selected to build the much-anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 after the popular reception to its outstanding RPG games, and Swen Vincke says he’d love to return to Larian’s self-created universe – but not for a while yet.
Larian’s Divinity series began back in 2002 with the release of Divine Divinity. However, it was really 2014’s Divinity Original Sin and its 2017 sequel, both of which were funded through crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, that raised the profile of Larian Studios dramatically. Speaking to IGN about the possibility of a follow-up to Divinity Original Sin 2, Vincke says, “It’s our own universe we built, so we’re definitely going to get back there at some point.”
With just how vast and deep its new game is, with the Baldur’s Gate 3 length said by Vincke himself to climb as high as 200 hours if you do absolutely everything, it’s been a rather intensive project for Larian Studios. The Baldur’s Gate 3 release date lands just shy of three years after the game first launched in early access, and Vincke notes that the team will definitely look to take some well-earned time off after its launch.
“We’ll first finish this one, and then take a break, because we will need to refresh ourselves creatively,” Vincke remarks. “You’re seeing 400 developers putting their heart and souls into this – you’re getting the best of them and their craft in this game. I can tell you, it’s quite a thing.” Don’t expect to hear anything on Divinity Original Sin 3 for some time, then.
Nevertheless, I’m certainly pleased to hear that the team at Larian is eager to return to its own universe – it’s been so cool seeing them take on the D&D mantle and developing all of its Baldur’s Gate 3 races, as well as crafting ominous, screen-commanding characters like the recently revealed Orin the Red, voiced by Maggie Robertson (of Lady Dimitrescu fame).
The Divinity games are what put Larian on the map, however, and with good reason – if you plow through all of the Baldur’s Gate 3 locations and quests and still want even more of that roleplaying goodness, I can’t recommend checking out the Divinity Original Sin games enough.

Larian Studios has rolled back the latest Baldur's Gate 3patch for causing crashes, but recent saves have been made temporarily unplayable.
A large content update & round of bug fixes are coming to Baldur’s Gate 3, as a new patch is in development that will add requested features and address glitches that have been reported to the developer Larian Studios. While Baldur’s Gate 3 is very much playable in its retail form, there are still many issues that need addressing with the game.
Larian Studios has two patches in the works for Baldur’s Gate 3 — the first targeting over 1,000 bug fixes and tweaks to the Dungeons & Dragons-based role-playing game and feelgood hit of the summer. The second will move on from mere bug-squashing and will start incorporating some of players’ most requested features.
Baldur's Gate III is prepared to receive its first patch and by the looks of it, it seems like a huge one. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed a roadmap on Twitter, promising to fix issues and make relevant tweaks to ability balances, based on user suggestions. First up, is hotfix #4, which would make some emergency fixes to crashes and progressions blocks, in addition to any bugs that hinder the general interface. That will be followed by the massive patch, boasting over 1,000 fixes, followed by patch 2, which will ‘incorporate some requests.' It's unclear what those requests could be, but we already know that the team is planning an update that would let players change their character's appearance mid-game.
Larian Studio's first major patch for Baldur's Gate 3 will have over one thousand «fixes and tweaks», studio CEO and game director Swen Vincke has said.
In more stats released by Larian Studios, we've learnt that the most popular choice of Origin character in Baldur's Gate 3 is also the seventh most common cause of death for players (at time of writing).
A studio that handled Baldur’s Gate III translations has apologized after outsourced workers were omitted from the game’s credits. "We take full responsibility for this omission of our freelancers' names and apologize for the effects that it had," Altagram Group founder and CEO Marie Amigues said in a statement. "We would like to thank Larian for allowing us to quickly fix that error and update the credits section. The names of the Brazilian Portuguese translators will be included in an upcoming patch to the game."
Baldur's Gate 3 is an exceptional game: a grognardy CRPG with complex and barely-explained D&D rules and a massive mainstream success, even before its console releases. With Diablo 4's always-online grind providing the perfect contrast, it's come across to some as a victory over malignant modern videogame trends: Where other companies build cosmetics stores and battle passes, Larian has succeeded through good old fashioned respect for player freedom and quality craftwork, or so goes some popular posts and articles. A handful of game developers, meanwhile, have cautioned against oversimplifying the lesson, arguing that Baldur's Gate 3 is an anomaly that even big studios won't be able to replicate. Online arguing has ensued.
The Baldur's Gate 3 modding community continues to deliver. We've recently published an article dedicated to the best mods for Larian's new record-breaking cRPG masterpiece, and every day there's something worth adding to the list. Today, it's a DLSS 2 to FSR 2 mod based on the 'CyberFSR2' framework originally established by PotatoOfDoom for Cyberpunk 2077.
Larian Studios says it has been in contact with a localization company that failed to provide complete credits for the Brazilian translation of Baldur's Gate 3, and promised that all missing credits will be added in the next hotfix.
Those of us lucky enough to play on PC have been enjoying Baldur’s Gate 3 to no end, and PlayStation owners will soon be able to join in all the fun — but that begs the question, will Baldur’s Gate 3 come to Xbox?
Baldur's Gate III is dominating the Steam charts with record-breaking numbers, surpassing the 800,000 concurrent player mark on August 6. To be precise, the peak count was 814,666, perching it as the ninth-highest ranking PC game, when sorted by all-time peak variable — right below Hogwarts Legacy. It's an impressive feat, considering the game had been out for nearly three years now, albeit in early access, which allowed developer Larian Studios to slow-cook it to perfection based on player feedback. The completed version of the game dropped August 3 on PC and has shown no signs of slowing down.
