Yuffie joins the party at the end of Chapter Sixof , during the Costa del Sol section of the story. Players may meet her much earlier on, however — she first appears in Junon, where the party finds her lounging in a fishing boat. When she's capsized by the Terror of the Deep boss, Cloud and company swoop in to rescue her. Yuffie survives unharmed, and immediately recognizes Barret as the leader of an Avalanche cell. She musters up the courage to ask for his help, and he suggests she come by the inn.

Both options also have a positive effect on Yuffie's relationship with Cloud in , so don't worry about impacting her affinity.
Yuffie's recruitment in is markedly different from the original, in which she was a missable character who would appear as a random encounter and make off with all the party's Materia. In, she joins automatically. And just like that, Yuffie is a permanently playable member of the party. Her fighting style is flexible — she excels at both close-quarters and ranged combat, and can quickly switch between the two. Her one weakness is defense, so it's important to keep an eye on her HP and know when to move her to the back row.
