2024 looks fairly similar to last year for shooter games fans in that there are very few big names on the list. We still don't know exactly what id Software and The Coalition are doing, while DICE's next Battlefield isn't launching any time soon. There will be a new Call of Duty game, of course, but it's hard to get too excited about it after Modern Warfare III.
UEVR Public Beta Makes Dozens of Thousands of Unreal Engine Games VR Compatible

2024 started off in the best possible way for PC gamers who are into Virtual Reality, thanks to the Public Beta release of the long-awaited UEVR mod project. This is an injector tool created by Praydog, the same modder behind the REFramework which also brought VR compatibility to all RE Engine games.
UEVR is much bigger in scope, though. There's an estimated eleven thousand Unreal Engine-powered games on Steam alone, and more are available through other platforms like Itch.io. This framework works on a universal level, adding full 6DOF head-tracking, automatic handling of in-game user interfaces, three different rendering methods (Native Stereo, Synchronized Sequential, and Alternating/AFR), optional room-scale movement, optional depth buffer integration, and a plugin system that allows modders to introduce even more features either via C++ programming or Unreal Engine 4's Blueprint.
Of course, while the games should at least run correctly in VR, that doesn't mean they all work well. The tool supports Unreal Engine 4.8 to Unreal Engine 5.3. To that end, you can check out a spreadsheet of the games tested by the Flat2VR community here. UEVR also allows the community to set up optimized profiles for specific games, which is exactly what they've already done here for the following titles:
After downloading the UEVR mod from Github, you'll have to launch your game, then switch to UEVR, pick the game from the list of running processes, select between OpenVR and OpenXR (use the former for SteamVR headsets or the latter for Quest headsets), press inject and go back to the game. Of course, there are lots more tweaks that can be done to optimize the experience via the menu.
With such a large modding project still in beta, there are bound to be issues. Luckily, the Flat2VR Discord community is very helpful on that front. Still, UEVR is a major leap forward for PC VR gamers, as it enables a massive amount of titles to be enjoyed in Virtual Reality.
