In a group interview with content creators in London, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that Blizzard plans to allow Dracthyr to roll other classes besides Evoker in The War Within. During the Interview, Ion confirmed that while that's the plan for the expansion, it won't be a launch feature, but he's hoping they'll be ready early on in the expansion. A glimpse of this future happened on the BlizzCon Warbands preview, when Blizzard has a Dracthyr character wearing leather gear by accident.

In looking through the War Within customization data, one race stood out as a mystery--the Harronir. While we expected to see the Earthen Allied Race show up with many new customization descriptions, seeing so many options for the Harrionir took us by surprise. While we haven't encountered the Harronir in War Within announcements and demos so far, based on their appearances we suspect they might be a race we'll interact with in higher-level zones, with aesthetic elements reminiscent of Trolls, Elves, and Venthyr. No confirmation that they'll be a playable Allied Race, but in past expansions, NPC races with numerous customization options--think Nighborne or Vulpera--later became Allied Races. And while you can't play a Harronir in-game, you can create your own in our TWW Dressing Room, fully customize them, and dress them up in armor! Harronir Customizations in Dressing Room The Harronir customization options you see below are a promising start, but they'd still need some work to be a true Allied Race, as they're lacking some player-favorite options like a variety of hair styles or colors. Either way, we can't wait to see them in War Within and learn more about this shadowy race's backstory!
With our continued alpha test datamining, we've discovered legendary trinkets associated with none other than our longtime friend Brann Bronzebeard, famed explorer and designated Delve companion in Season 1 of The War Within! While we don't have a lot to go off of right now, this appears very different from most legendaries we are used to. Most interesting is the relation to Bann Bronzebeard, who we already know is the designated Delve companion for Season 1, though the fact that the trinket either summons Brann or buffs him if he's already present suggests that the trinket isn't just meant for use during Delves where he would always be present anyway. There's also a potential hint within the flavor text, in that the trinket is «Entrusted to you by Brann Bronzebeard himself.» We may be reading a little too far into it, but that sounds an awful lot like the trinket could be a reward for maxing out some kind of level, friendship, or reputation track with the explorer.
With Warbands arriving with The War Within, Blizzard is experimenting with more achievements that possibly require multiple characters. One example is the new Algarian Dungeoneer, which requires you to complete a Mythic Dungeon performing each role. This achievement is supported by three others: Algarian Dungeon Tank, Algarian Dungeon Healer, and Algarian Dungeon Damage Dealer. Each requires you to complete a Mythic Dungeon with each of the game's roles. Completing Algarian Dungeoneer also rewards the Versatile Peddler transmog set, which can be seen below.

In an interview, Blizzard revealed that «Heroic Week» is returning in The War Within. Dragonflight changed the raid release schedule for the first time in a while, removing «Heroic Week» — a one week period where Mythic raids and the full loot pool of Mythic+ were not open. While removing «Heroic Week» had upsides for certain players, such as not having arbitrary caps for 1 week, it has been criticized by others for:

A new quality of life feature coming in The War Within is Arachnophobia Mode, allowing players to dynamically change spider creature models into crabs! Defined as the fear of spiders and other arachnids such as scorpions and ticks, arachnophobia is estimated to affect 3.5 to 6.1% of the global population, and given that we already know The War Within takes us deep beneath the surface of Azeroth and into conflict with the Nerubians within, it's no surprise that The War Within contains quite a lot of spiders! A completely seamless toggle found within the game options, Arachnophobia Mode doesn't even require a game reload. However, it is clearly still a work-in-progress, as many of the more humanoid looking nerubian models are not yet affected, nor are bosses, pets, or mounts.
At the very beginning of The War Within, players are dropped into a familiar location. While we don't know exactly what's going on yet, the area is easy to recognize...

Correctly, Blizzard loves to start new World of Warcraft expansions with a Big Explosion of some sort. In Legion, Khadgar teleports an entire city to float above an island chain. In Battle for Azeroth, there's a tense ship battle influenced by a demigod. In Shadowlands, basically everyone dies. Seriously. Now, with The War Within on the horizon, Blizzard has conceived of another way to kick off an expansion with some proper fireworks, by completely demolishing a beloved in-game location.
Back in 2022, I previewed World of Warcraft's last expansion, Dragonflight, in a press pre-alpha situation. Though I'm always hesitant to glowingly recommend an entire MMORPG expansion based on brief early alpha storyline play and not the sum of its content, Dragonflight felt exceptional out of the gate, and was, largely thanks to the transformative new dragonriding mechanic and other major changes that shook off the dust from the widely panned Shadowlands expansion. Blizzard designed the Dragon Isles with bombast in mind, and my very early experiences zipping around them adequately conveyed the sense of increased scale and majesty that would carry throughout the entire expansion.
