Remaking games is not easy. You have to consider how retro titles will play on modern consoles and for today's audiences. You also have to work on the finer details, such as the clarity of dialogue, balancing gameplay, and quality-of-life changes. The list goes on.

Persona 1 and 2 are getting remakes.

Rumors about a remake have existed for a while, but do those still hold water in 2024? First released in 2010 (2011 in the United States), were the flagship games of Gen 5. Featuring the New York-based Unova region, new ways to bond and battle, and 156 new Pokémon — at the time, the most ever introduced in a single generation — was a huge hit, a generational game-changer. It was later followed by a pair of sequels, and .

Tomorrow will be a big day for certain fans, as Tuesday is Pokemon Day worldwide. The day is held in “hollowed space” amongst the fans because it celebrates the original release date of the classic monster-catching titles in Japan. While they got an upgrade before coming over to the West, their impact can’t be undersold. After all, we’re still talking about the franchise and its success over 25 years later, and all sorts of people and publications have written about it and its games and have honored its achievements and anniversaries. So with the upcoming Pokemon Presents, gamers are curious about what will be shown, and Pokemon Black and White seems to be the thing everyone thinks is coming.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered is out now, letting fans experience the first three games in the series on modern hardware. Reviews are looking mostly positive, with fans and critics praising developer Aspyr for remaining faithful to the original games.

Springboarding off of metafictional horror Alan Wake 2, developer Remedy Entertainment has announced that its other bizarro shooters have "increased development pace."

Did we put the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Silent Hill 2 remakes on that list of our most anticipated games of 2024? The article is so voluminous I’m not sure I have the energy to check. I get halfway down the page and feel like I need to pitch camp below one of the paragraph breaks, like a mountaineer sleeping beneath a crag in one of those dangling tents. Assuming we didn’t, both have been slated for 2024 release by the PlayStation blog.

PlayStation has just published a trailer (above) and a webpage that both detail some of the biggest games heading our way in 2024. It's certainly worth checking out, as it does highlight how exciting this year is looking at this early stage. Most notable, though, is release windows for a pair of major Konami titles.

Konami has not given clear release windows for the upcoming remakes of Metal Gear Solid 3 or Silent Hill 2, but it seems Sony itself is confident they'll both be out this year. Both titles are listed among an official breakdown of PS5 games set to launch in 2024.

Konami’s remakes of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Silent Hill 2 are coming to PlayStation 5 this year, according to a new hype reel released by Sony Interactive Entertainment on Thursday. Neither game had a confirmed release window from publisher Konami, but it appears both projects are now confirmed to arrive in 2024.

Capcom has officially confirmed it plans to continue releasing remakes of older Resident Evil games after the success of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. At the PlayStation Partner Awards, Resident Evil 4 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi told Game Watch that the publisher would like to continue developing Resident Evil remakes.

In recent years Capcom has had a lot of success with Resident Evil remakes, with new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 being major critical and commercial hits. Resident Evil 3 was slightly less successful, although it has its fans (I consider myself one of them). That said, the obvious candidates for Resident Evil remakes have all been done now, so will Capcom continue on with them? At a PlayStation event in Japan RE4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo seemed to indicate there’s more in the works…

Over the last few years, Capcom has released three Resident Evil remakes, and each of them has enjoyed widespread critical and commercial success (even if reception for the Resident Evil 3 remake was relatively a bit muted). Unsurprisingly, then, it seems the company has every intention to keep pumping more of those out.

It’s been confirmed that more Resident Evil remakes will be made in the future, although it’s not currently known which classic horror game will be revamped next.

Capcom confirms that it will launch more Resident Evil remakes beyond Resident Evil 4. This comes after the first three remakes have proven massively successful, prompting Capcom to keep the trend going and bring back more of its older titles.

After the success of the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, Capcom has confirmed plans to continue the trend, although stopped short of announcing which Resident Evil game is next in line for the remake treatment.

A sizable portion of CAPCOM's comeback streak of game releases included the Resident Evil remakes. The publisher's strategy to bring back the survival horror classics paid dividends, with Resident Evil 2 launching to critical acclaim in January 2019. Although the popular spinoff franchise, , has had a fair number of games that are divisive among its fans, the remakes of and may paint a promising picture for those who prefer the series' classic style. Since, games have tended to stray from traditional RPG gameplay and story elements, beginning with the more platformer-like — and while the games haven't always had a completely negative reception, they have also left many longtime fans of the series wanting an experience more similar to the first few games.

Star Ocean The Second Story R, a full-fat retelling of the PS1 cult classic, has wowed retro and modern JRPG fans with one of the best remakes of the year – in the year of Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 remakes, no less.  

When it comes to The Game Awards, there is almost ALWAYS a controversy that fills up viewers’ minds by the time the show ends. Sometimes, it’s because of a certain game winning an award that it didn’t deserve to win. Last night, the Game of the Year nominees were announced, and headlining the titular award itself are Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Resident Evil 4. It's the last one on that list that has sparked controversy, as many are now arguing over whether a remake should be eligible for GOTY.

Multiple Silent Hill remakes are apparently in the works at Konami, alongside new previously announced entries for the series. 

Last October, Konami announced the PS5 exclusive Silent Hill 2 remake, developed by Bloober Team. Since then, we've heard little about the project, but Konami mentioned multiple "remakes" in its earnings call, hinting that there may be more in the works than just the second game. Perhaps we'll see the entire trilogy on current-gen hardware soon enough.

Hot off the heels of Alan Wake 2’s success, Remedy’s future looks to be a busy and potentially fruitful one, as the developer has shared details with investors on several projects in the works at the studio, including sequels, remakes, and a new multiplayer IP, with one of the standouts being an update on the announced remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

Last April, it was announced that Max Payne 1&2 are getting remade with help from Rockstar Games. Now, studio Remedy Entertainment has said the project is in the next stage of development.

Alan Wake 2 is Remedy's big project of the moment, but it's far from the only thing the studio is working on. Today, as part of its most recent financial report, the company shared a look at how its other projects, including a sequel to Control and remakes of the first two Max Payne games, are coming along.

And now, just a few days later, the studio has provided some updates to some games it has in development, including Control 2 and its remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2. 

Last April, it was announced that Max Payne 1&2 are getting remade with help from Rockstar Games. Now, studio Remedy Entertainment has said the project is in the next stage of development.

Alan Wake 2 finally crawled out of the ocean after being stuck in a 13-year-long limbo, and developer Remedy Entertainment is now shifting its focus to its other projects: Control’s sequel, the Max Payne remakes, and other oddball games.

Fresh from the release of Alan Wake 2 - and apparently with a view to driving me nuts, because I haven't had a chance to play Alan Wake 2 yet - Remedy have shared some titbits about future projects. These include the modestly-known about Control 2, a sequel to the paranormal Brutalist telekinet 'em up that is seeing "good progress", and the forthcoming remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, on which Remedy are collaborating with GTA and Max Payne 3 developer Rockstar.

This morning, Remedy Entertainment shared its half-year report with investors. The Finnish studio proudly noted the excellent reception to Alan Wake 2's release, though it also said it's too early to discuss sales.

Not only was this deal bringing billions of dollars to merge the company, but it also saw a battle between various regulators. Their biggest regulator to get through was the CMA, and they were able to give the approval to proceed with the purchase. Recently, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, was present during an interview with CNBC. 

Remedy, the original developers for Max Payne, entered an agreement with Rockstar Games to help bring its remakes alive. However, it's not as simple as you may think.

Hollow Knight fans are down pretty bad at the moment. With another penciled in release date for Silksong delayed to who knows when, they're now back to making their own DLC and modding the entirety of Shrek into the original game in an attempt to pass the time until we hear some more official news. They've done pretty much everything bar remake the first game from the ground up, but it looks like one fan is well on their way to doing that already, and in 3D no less.

Take-Two is targetting the modding community yet again, this time reportedly shutting down a Grand Theft Auto 5 mod that adds AI voice-acting to NPCs. The modder has hit back, saying this action was taken with no explanation, and even attacking Rockstar over its recent remakes and re-releases.

Take-Two has chalked up another body in the GTA modding scene, and barely a week after Rockstar turned heads by buying up the FiveM mod makers. This time the victim was the creator of Sentient Streets, the AI mod that allowed you to chat with, cajole and extort the NPCs of Los Santos that we covered last week. Rockstar's parent company was none too happy with it, apparently, so all trace of it has now been blasted from the internet.

After this week's Pokemon Presents showcase, fans are beginning to think Black and White remakes could be on the horizon.
