EA has added yet another game to its running list of titles being shut down this year, with NHL 20 unfortunately on the chopping block. EA keeps a running list of all its games that will have their online connectivity severed. This way, fans of EA's games have plenty of time to play titles to their fullest before they lose key components of their functionality, but it's always disappointing whenever a game is shut down.

The former NPD Group (now named “Circana”) has released its full North American sales data for November, typically the biggest gaming month of the year, and surprisingly, the results weren’t that great. Players spent $5.9 billion on games, additional content, and hardware in November, a 9 percent year-on-year decrease. This was largely driven by a 24 percent drop in hardware spending, with all consoles being down double digits year-on-year. The PlayStation 5 was the #1 console, followed by the Xbox Series X/S, with the Switch really dropping off this season. It seems like inflation, and rumors that a new Switch is right around the corner, likely impacted hardware sales this year.
Tied up with four points a piece, the Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens headed into overtime on Saturday night for five minutes of three-on-three hockey. But in just under a minute of overtime, the Detroit Red Wings’ Jake Walman ended the game with a slapshot and the griddy to celebrate.

After one of the most release-heavy months of the year (or possibly of any year), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 came out on the top of the sales charts in the U.S. according to industry-tracking firm Circana. Not only did Insomniac’s new title top the month’s best-seller chart (and was one of nine new releases to make it onto the list), it also made it to fourth place in the year-to-date bestseller chart. Video game hardware sales plummeted year-over-year, though, and video game sales overall dipped by 5%.
The former NPD Group (now named “Circana”) has released its full North American sales data for October, and it was a bit of an up-and-down kickoff to the holiday season. Players spent $4 billion on games, additional content, and hardware in October, a 5 percent year-on-year decrease. The PlayStation 5 was the #1 console, followed by Switch and Xbox Series X/S, but hardware sales were down 23 percent year on year, with all consoles experiencing a double-digit decline in business.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was the best-selling game in the US in October, while PS5 was once again the leading console platform.
EA has announced a new patch for NHL 24 that addresses a good bit of community feedback after the launch of the game. Updates to the Hybrid and Goalie Controls along with adjustments to the Goalie Fatigue System and more are included in Patch 1.1.1. Players can also expect updates to center ice art for multiple teams across the NHL and AHL along with uniform changes across multiple leagues. There will also be another patch coming in early November that addresses highly-requested changes that includes adjustments to the lacrosse move, unintentional push check in front of the net when attempting a one-timer, goalie tuning and more. The big focus of this patch was addressing the feedback with the Hybrid control option, which made the game difficult to play for users who require core actions be performed on the Face Buttons of the controller. What makes for a highlight-reel moment in sports? It’s not just the raw athletic skill on display — part of the how-did-they-do-that thrill comes from the difficulty and risk associated with a low-percentage play. Making a spectacular diving catch can get you into the SportsCenter Top 10; touching grass with your face as the ball rolls to the outfield fence is more of an America’s Funniest Home Videos kind of thing.
