Big-name video games released in September have sold less at launch than their predecessors across Europe, according to fresh data.

Today, 2K has announced the release date for Season 2 of NBA 2K24. Victor Wembanyama will be the face of Season 2 which will include a Level 39 Cyborg suit as a reward. Wembanyama is the international prospect that has drawn comparisons to Lebron James. For MyTEAM, players will start the season with a Level 1 Free Agent Victor Wembanyama card and can pay off with unlocking a Level 40 Diamond Wilt Chamberlain card. Two new premium collections will allow players to pick up a Diamond Tim Duncan and Diamond Carmelo Anthony as Collection Rewards of Special Inserts in the Pack Market. A Diamond Michael Jordan is also available as a Special Insert in the Pack Market and directly in the Player Market.

Visual Concepts came to an important but necessary conclusion with NBA 2K24: it needed to dial back the superfluous aspects of the series back. For the past two years, on PS5 specifically, the release’s popular MyCAREER mode has wanted to touch upon all aspects of basketball – including the cultural stuff, like fashion and music. This year’s game, however, is focused fully on the court, and as a solo experience it’s all the better for it.

In a franchise – and, to our knowledge, sports game – first, NBA 2K24 will introduce a paid Battle Pass, which builds upon the existing Seasons feature. For the first time, progression will be unified across MyCAREER and MyTEAM, so you won’t have to earn rewards individually. There are twelve initial reveals that range from a 98 overall down to a 94, so there will not be a 99 overall player at launch.
