Lies of P was one of the standout games in a year that was chock-full of instant classics, providing what many have deemed to be the best Soulslike experience in a game not developed by FromSoftware. Given the critical and commercial success the action RPG has enjoyed, it was no surprise when developer Neowiz announced in November that it was working on a sequel, and now, another interesting tidbit regarding its development may have emerged.

To kick off the season of Love, Lies of P and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be collaborating and bringing new gear to the intense souls-like on February 14, 2024.

Awards are given out to apps across Apple's lineup of devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. Popular apps like language learning tool Duolingo, professional video editing software DaVinci Resolve, and film streaming platform Mubi have made the cut this year.

Lies of P has received a new update that adds a number of new features and tweaks.

Lies of P, the Pinocchio-inspired soulslike title, is getting a DLC expansion and a separate sequel. Publisher Neowiz dropped a Director's Letter video, in which game director Ji Won Choi confirmed the plans and revealed two pieces of concept art from the in-development DLC. The first one appears to be a laboratory frozen all over, which could presumably be the location where the human citizens of Krat were experimented on and turned into puppets. There's no labelling on them, so for now, we can simply guess what these images could mean for future content. The second art sees our puppet protagonist strutting along an abandoned, almost ghostly ship, which could indicate some Peter Pan influence.

The first boss fight with The Black Rabbit Brotherhood in occurs when you face the Eldest in the Malum District. In this fight, he will summon his brothers as mini-bosses. Aside from that, it's a fairly straightforward boss fight with the Eldest, and while it is difficult, it is not the fight that players are having trouble with. Instead, it's the second time you face the Black Rabbit Brotherhood at the Relic of Trismegistus that is causing players problems.

A hulking human modified by the Alchemists, Champion Victor is a boss in you must beat in the Grand Exhibition Conference Room to continue your adventures through Krat. This Frankenstein-inspired being has two short but brutal phases you have to overcome. Similar to the classic monster, this boss has a single weakness you can exploit to make the fight much easier.

As you travel through the Barren Swamp in , you'll eventually have to beat a terrifying boss named The Green Monster of the Swamp, whose attacks can inflict a deadly condition throughout the fight. You can take advantage of a clear weakness in other enemies from this area to expose this boss's vulnerability. This monstrous foe has two phases you should be able to overcome as long as you pay attention to its attack patterns.

Simon Manus transforms from an NPC you encounter in to a terrifying final boss you must be throughout two challenging phases in a desperate fight. This battle tests everything you've learned while exploring the city of Krat, from exploiting the boss' weaknesses to mastering Pinocchio's abilities. You can take on Simon Manus at the Arche Abbey Cradle of the Gods as he attempts to become a god.

Amulets are items you can equip to Pinocchio in to grant some of the best passive bonuses in the game to fight off the worst enemies lurking around Krat. Around 30 different Amulets can be found as you continue your adventures throughout the city, helping you become stronger. The effects can range from basic increases to Attributes to higher damage against certain foes.

It's no surprise that horror games would include some frightening characters, but not every face of terror in video games comes from a title dedicated to fear. Whether it's the monstrous bosses from or subtle chills from games like , there are plenty of terrifying figures across genres. Some have left legacies that are remembered years after their debut, while others have appeared in recent years but made immediate impacts within their respective games.

The Puppet of the Future is a goliath automaton you can find as an optional boss in , but the area you discover this machine in harms Pinocchio and makes it hard to beat this enemy. Found in the lower sections of the Workshop Union Culvert, you might avoid this enemy at first due to its sheer size. Taking down this boss at some point will give you an incredibly rare Ergo and a special upgrade ingredient.

Deep in the Barren Swamp, you might find an NPC named the Owl Doctor in that you can talk to and even beat in an intense optional boss fight. An individual broken by cruel experiments from the Alchemist, this figure hides in the lower floors of a wooden shack you can reach by climbing down a ladder. This quick and brutal opponent has deceptive attacks that can be hard to predict in the limited space of this boss battle.

The Nameless Puppet is a secret boss in that you can find by making certain choices at the very end of the game, leading to new endings if you manage to beat this final challenge. Surviving two deadly phases in this battle can be brutal, testing every skill you've learned. Those attempting to take down this boss may want to continue their struggle for the extremely rare Ergo dropped by this graceful yet empty puppet.

A Stalker enemy you can beat as an optional boss in is the Red Fox, someone you find in an earlier encounter during your initial adventures through Krat. Also known as Claudia, she first travels close to the Workshop Union Culvert Stargazer with her sister, Black Cat. This warrior has many quick attacks with strong combos that make her an overwhelming opponent in the city of frenzied puppets.

, like almost all Action RPG games, is filled to the brim with hidden details and unanswered questions. As DLC has seemingly been confirmed by job listings made by the game's developer, Neowiz Games, it is possible that a number of these most pressing questions could soon be definitively answered. Though some unanswered questions are of little real importance, there are a few ambiguities, queries, and mysteries that are unaddressed in the base game, which are of incredible significance to the lore of the city of Krat and its numerous inhabitants — with any luck, DLC will clear some things up.

Motivity is essentially your strength stat in , which scales to certain weapons that can deal some of the best damage in the game as Pinocchio levels up. While many tools of this type are heavy, slow items that take a long time to swing at enemies, there are some that make up for this risk. Fable Arts and different traits can make or break certain Motivity weapons you discover throughout your journey in Krat.

Throughout 's story, Pinocchio encounters a series of bosses that must be defeated to progress the story — he will also come upon a number of bosses whose defeat is optional. Despite their status as non-mandatory opponents, many of these optional bosses are difficult to best and offer excellent rewards — primarily in the form of costumes and accessories. These rewards and the experience of battle certainly justify the time and effort involved in engaging with 's optional bosses.

features numerous weapons, many of which, although beautiful, are very similar in appearance and animation — there is, however, a gameplay mechanic tied to the blade and handle of every weapon in the game — Fable Arts. Similar in principle to Weapon Arts from, Fable Arts, are special moves and abilities that can change the tide of combat. Coming in the form of attack Fable Arts, defense Fable Arts, and utility Fable Arts, this core gameplay mechanic is one of the most interesting aspects of the game — an impressive achievement in an expansive game that although not perfect comes shockingly close.

Beyond its main plot line, has a number of excellent side quests. In spite of not being necessary for the completion of the game, many of 's side quests are among the greatest, most entertaining, and most immersive missions in the city of Krat. While many ARPGs make their side quests almost as visible as their main quests, takes a different approach, encouraging the player to search out these optional opportunities — consequently, many of them are incredibly easy to overlook. Although for the most part, 's side quests are all great, some are definitely better and more memorable than others.

has established itself as a bona fide and well-designed soulslike, and developers Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio don't appear to be resting on their laurels. The game first drew excitement because of its similarities to, but 's brooding and violent adaption of Carlo Collodi's manages to establish its own identity. While the game is a robust experience all told, and New Game Plus helps add replayability, the prospect of additional DLC is nonetheless exciting.

In , players must decide Sophia's ultimate fate. Sophia is a bit of a mystery. She's roughly equivalent to the Blue Fairy, who originally appeared in as Pinocchio's greatest ally and advisor. In, she helps him level up with Ergo, revives him when he dies, and is generally a force for good. Throughout most of the plot, she doesn't seem to have ulterior motives of her own, besides a genuine desire to help Pinocchio and see him through his journey. However, as players approach the final moments of the game, they realize that Sophia is out for more.

Like almost all Action RPG games, the ultimate enemies facing the protagonist in are its many powerful and intimidating bosses. Although some of the game's early bosses are not challenging at all, a number of 's later boss battles are incredibly difficult — even for the most experienced of players. In spite of varying difficulty, almost all of the bosses in are incredibly well-designed, and the vast majority of them will test Pinocchio to his very limits — both in terms of his combat prowess, strategic mastery, and willpower.

Like many other games in the soulslike genre, has a number of NPC questlines, including one centered on a Stalker known as Black Cat, that run throughout the entire game — and although in most cases these quests are less obtuse than others in the genre, the different outcomes of each quest can still be unclear. As each NPC quest can only be completed in one way per playthrough of the game, decisions that yield different rewards or story outcomes can be especially important to consider, especially since certain decisions can have effects outside their individual storylines.

One of the final scenes of forces Pinocchio to decide whether to turn over his heart to his creator, Gepetto. Pinocchio's mechanical heart, the P-Organ, is part of what allows him to walk the line between puppet and real boy, exploring the desolate city of Krat as a freestanding automaton with a sense of will. It also functions as a complex, customizable skill tree, allowing players to upgrade the P-Organ throughout to gain new skills and upgrade stats.

Quartz is a useful upgrade material in that appears as small white crystals. Quartz is the key material for upgrading the P-Organ, Pinocchio's skill tree. Players must spend Quartz to unlock different nodes within the P-Organ and gain different abilities and perks. Unfortunately, Quartz is a rare material throughout Krat.

Both shops in operated by the characters Polendina and Pulcinella can be upgraded when Pinocchio delivers specific items back to them in Hotel Krat. Doing this expands the number of items each vendor will sell to Pinocchio along their journey. Ranging from new weapon parts to additional Legion Arms and other useful upgrades, increasing the stock of these stores should be a top priority as you explore Krat.

The city of Krat in hosts many secrets, including an optional area called Hermit's Cave that can only be unlocked by gaining a rare item later in the game. This item is difficult to get, requiring you to speak to many NPCs and find other objects around the city. Traveling underground to another area infested with frenzied puppets can be far easier said than done for Geppetto's creation.

is a visually stunning and atmospheric game, and like many of the most immersive ARPGs, it affords the player a degree of autonomy in the presentation of their playable character. Although there is the choice of eight unique Legion Arms and a seemingly countless number of weapons, perhaps the most significant visual customization option is the ability to select one of 17 costumes. Though they all are exceptionally well-designed, some are far cooler than others.

Even after you beat the final boss of , there are still plenty of things to do, from finding the best weapons and gear in a new playthrough to discovering alternate endings to Pinocchio's journey. New Game+ options make this game worth experiencing more than once since branching dialogue choices significantly impact certain quests. Places or objects you may have missed before are best uncovered after the credits roll.

Arguably, the toughest boss in is Laxasia, The Complete, a loyal servant of Simon Manus who can be extremely difficult to beat. Having tons of attacks that can be confusing to predict within two separate phases, anyone might struggle against this agile opponent. You will have to equip the right items and exploit this boss' one weakness to have the best chance to claim victory against one of Pinocchio's greatest foes.

is an ARPG with some incredibly immersive customization options, primarily among them the ability to customize the appearance of the protagonist, Pinocchio. These choices, although limited when compared with some other RPG games, are bountiful — with costumes, eight Legion Arms, and 11 accessories to choose from. Although the costumes and Legion Arms are limited in size and shape, there is no such restriction on accessories; as a result, the various masks and other pieces of headgear are some of the most unique customization options in. Although they are all well-designed, some are far cooler than others.

Upgrades are a key part of and one that players need to pay attention to in order to be successful in the game. These upgrades are acquired by finding Geppetto in Hotel Krat, who will allow Pinocchio to use Quartz to upgrade the P-Organ. In total, there are 5 Phases that are possible to unlock in the base game, with Phase 6 being added in New Game+ and Phase 7 in New Game++.

Some of the strangest events players can come across in are the mysterious ringing telephones scattered throughout the map. When you answer these calls, a man calling himself the King of Riddles will give you a simple riddle. Solving the riddle will give you a Trinity Key. Each Trinity Key unlocks a strange green door leading to a Trinity Sanctum.

There are many powerful weapons in . One of the main features of the game is combining different blades or heads with handles. This allows for a lot of customization, though it is also possible to make a poor combination. But, there are also unique weapons that can’t be dissembled but are still strong.

One of Pinocchio's best stats to build into in is called Motivity, which ties into your ability to wield heavier weapons and increase your damage to even one-shot enemies with the most OP gear and weapons. Like the Strength score seen in or, the right items and upgrades rely on Motivity to devastate even the toughest bosses. You will have to carefully level up with the Ergo you collect to achieve this build.

There are many decisions to be made in , but the one over Alidoro's fate is something of an outlier. Most of the divergent paths in have to do with a choice between the truth and a lie. Each one contributes points toward the ending in the Lie System, a feature that can seem cryptic at first. But with a little attention to the lore, it's easy to tell which dialogue selections contribute to which kind of ending. And even with a little inconsistency or the occasional wrong pick, there's always a way to back out and get a decent, if somewhat unsatisfying, ending.

Legion Arms are one of the most important and interesting tools available in 's vast and varied arsenal. Although the game features more prosaic weaponry, such as the ubiquitous swords and axes, the option to have one of eight specialized mechanical arms ensures that 's combat remains fresh and unique — an impressive feat in an ever more saturated video game genre. Though not the only enjoyable gameplay mechanic in, Legion Arms certainly stands out and shines in a game that is not perfect but is shockingly close.

has its fair share of challenging enemies and boss fights, but the Puppet King is one not easily forgotten. The final boss of chapter six, who also marks the game's halfway point, is a two-phase boss fight that transitions from a big heavy-hitting mech giant to a swift and skilled puppet. As a result, you must adjust your play style in the middle of the battle, which is one of the reasons this particular boss is so difficult.

In , there are several collectibles to gather on your journey, one of which is Vinyl Records, which can be gathered throughout the game, including in New Game+. There are 16 Vinyl Records to collect, and five of those 16 are considered Golden Records.

Boss weapons and rare amulets can only be crafted in after you find the location of a treasure hunter whom you can trade Rare Ergo for these powerful items. However, lying to the hunter NPC the first time you meet them might make it hard to craft this gear. You may have to track down the hunter a second time to finally give away your collected Ergo for some of the game's best tools.

As you approach the Estella Opera House in , you might encounter the Mad Clown Puppet on a fiery slope as an optional boss you could beat as you travel along Rosa Isabelle Street. While there aren't multiple phases in this fight, the Clown shows no mercy with highly damaging attacks. This boss can be quite difficult to take down since it has some of the highest health out of any opponent Pinocchio could face.

has many characters you'll meet during different quests, with some giving you the option to lie or tell the truth, with these choices leading to all the different endings in the game and a few rare items. NPCs are greatly affected by what you say to them, with their stories branching to paths determined from specific conversations. Although it seems like puppets are unable to lie, Pinocchio's special nature could lead to many outcomes.

One of the most difficult early bosses you fight in is the Scrapped Watchman, a giant police puppet charged with electricity that can be very difficult to beat. Split into two distinct phases, you'll have to master Pinocchio's movement and wait for the perfect times to strike. The limited gear you have at this point in the game gives you only a few options for taking down this giant automaton.

Ergo is the main resource in . It acts as a currency for purchasing new items and a resource for improving Pinocchio's weapons and skills. As such, you can collect Ergo simply by progressing through the game. If you find yourself low on this magical stone, you will need to hunt down some enemies, find Ergo Fragments, or sell some items.

One of the main features to get new abilities in is the P-Organ, a device in Hotel Krat that gives upgrades in complex node pathways that can be difficult to decipher. The vast array presented progresses naturally but costs valuable materials to unlock different sections. Those who understand the P-Organ can access even better improvements that help fight against the dangerous puppets that roam the city.

Autumn has finally arrived in the UK, with blustery winds and heavy downpours washing away a lot of the recent warm weather, doing so just in time for the autumnal equinox this weekend. It’s really been a “stay inside and play games” kind of week, in other words, and we’ve been doing just that!

The combat of can be influenced by Legion Arms, special tools you can make and upgrade to give your character special abilities and techniques against the crazed puppets in Krat. There are many different types of Legion Arms you can find, with their own unique traits and modifications. A rare material must be collected in order to improve these powerful secondary weapons or craft entirely new ones.

A mobile furnace called the King's Flame, Fuoco in spreads devastating fire attacks against Pinocchio in the third major boss fight of the game that you must find a way to beat. A dangerous opponent with slow but highly damaging physical attacks, it can be hard to parry and dodge this boss. Thankfully, a hidden weakness can make this battle far easier when you collect items that inflict a specific type of damage.

One of the first significant bosses to beat in comes from Fallen Archbishop Andreus, whose boss fight is unlike any of the other encounters you've experienced until this point in the game. The main enemy of the St. Frangelico Cathedral Chapel takes moves from former enemies with deadly twists you might not expect. Even with two distinct phases that challenge you differently, Andreus has some hidden weaknesses.

is the newest Souls-borne game that will make players want to level up as quickly as possible. Players must level up in these games by spending the game’s currency, which in is calledErgo. Any method of leveling up quickly will involve finding a significant Ergo source to gain levels in any of the player’s stats.

If you want all of the Trinity Keys, you'd better hope you answer the riddles correctly.

is a Soulslike game that includes a series of choices which lead to different endings. As a retelling of set in a dark, bloody world, most decisions revolve around telling the truth or a lie. However, there are a few like Antonia's dilemma where the options include giving her a possible cure for the Petrification Disease, or end her suffering by letting her die without using the cure in an attempt to prolong her life.

Even as you continue to upgrade your character in , you eventually will unlock a way to respec your character and reset your level to change whatever build you've developed. Tailoring your stats and abilities to perfectly match a difficult boss can be the decision that leads to your victory. Although this mechanic may take some time to become available, you'll eventually have the opportunity to change almost anything you want.

Beating the Parade Master boss in can be a daunting task. This is the game's first boss fight, representing a major difficulty leap compared to ordinary opponents scattered across the starting area. Parade Master is the leader of the carnival-like performance you have seen throughout the Plaza in Krat. It is a giant mechanical robot with a cage affixed to its back and a large top hat, which plays an important role during the fight. Its combat mechanics, life bar, and general damage output are very different from the lowly mechanical subjects roaming the areas that lead to Hotel Krat.

The second wave of games coming to throughout the final weeks of September 2023 have been announced. Once again there are a couple of AAA day-one releases, meaning the rest of the list is somewhat lacking. The good news is that those games include Lies of P and Payday 3.

's ending and final boss depend on various choices made throughout the course of the game. As a Soulslike, or rather a Bloodbornelike, imitates much about the classic formula. Like many of the Soulslikes that came before it, includes multiple endings, and has a regular final boss along with a "" final boss, only unlocked in certain scenarios. What's unique about it, though, is a feature called the Lie System. Based on the 1883 Carlo Collodi novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, repeatedly gives players the chance to tell the truth or lie at crucial moments in the story. Their responses determine the ending.

is a challenging new action RPG, and the difficulty of its toughest encounters can make committing to any specific build a daunting task. tells the story of Pinocchio in a completely new way, shifting the narrative to a Belle Époquesetting and introducing horrific monsters and clockwork contraptions to face. In the soulslike tradition, each fight incentivizes a deep understanding of movement and a mastery of technique, as well as effective equipment and traits. This latter element makes the possibility of respeccing in the face of roadblocks particularly appealing.

The large areas full of hidden items in are easily explored through fast travel, allowing you to revisit locations that might hold another secret to help you in the difficult battles to come. Similar to the series and, the places you can jump between are usually safe zones to rest and recover. Navigating the city of Krat becomes much easier when fast traveling avoids the deranged puppets seen everywhere.

As you reach the St. Frangelico Cathedral location in , an NPC named Giangio will tell you about a special item called Gold Coin Fruit that you can get as a unique type of currency. These strange objects allow you to purchase upgrades and items that could summon allies to your side in battle. Although the Gold Coin Fruits only appear on a timer, there are ways to collect more by using certain perks or boosters.

It's because it doesn't like you.

Up-front, I’ll say this much: Talking about Lies of P is going to be either a praise or indictment of much of what we imagine the “soulslike” genre to be.

The new games coming to throughout the first couple of weeks of September 2023 have been announced. As the highlight is undoubtedly Bethesda’s new space-exploration RPG Starfield, those who aren’t interested in that game will find very little else on offer for this period.

The PC version of Lies of P is just $49.79 at Fanatical and includes a bonus Steam game.

When Lies of P released a demo back in June, many players found its dodge to be, well, dodgy. It was sluggish and imprecise and made tackling the game's towering bosses more challenging than it should have been.

Remember the demo for NEOWIZ’s upcoming Souls-like action RPG Lies of P, which had one million downloads and would be available indefinitely? It won’t be playable after September 5th, 1 AM PST, at least on Steam. The developer confirmed this in a recent Steam Community post.

We're now less than a month away from the release of Lies of P, the Soulslike game developed by NEOWIZ. In what is likely to be one of the last interviews before launch, DualShockers spoke with Game Director Choi Ji-won at Gamescom 2023. The developer revealed that multiple playthroughs will be required to fully understand the story. There will also be three different endings, likely based on Pinocchio's ability to lie in certain instances.

Announced back in 2021, it feels like we've been waiting on edgy Soulslike Lies of P forever, but we're in the homestretch now. The gritty take on the classic tale of Pinnochio will finally release on PS5 and PS4 on 19th September, and we got a cinematic trailer to tide us over in the meantime.

With its promise of a Bloodborne-inspired Soulslike adventure set in a gothic, twisted version of Pinnochio’s world, Lies of P has continued to look increasingly promising in all that’s been shown of it so far, and ahead of its launch not long from now, developer Neowiz has offered more new details that should excite those looking forward to the games.

NEOWIZ’s Lies of P, a Souls-like action RPG set in a Belle Époque-style city, releases next month and continues to look enticing. New extensive gameplay is available, courtesy of IGN at Gamescom, with director Jiwon Choi and translator Jiyoon Shin discussing some of the new weapons.

With Gamescom approaching soon, we’ll be getting new trailers and updates on a number of upcoming titles, but Neowiz, it turns out, has unleashed its Gamescom trailer for upcoming Soulslike action RPG Lies of P early.

NEOWIZ announced on Twitter that Lies of P has gone gold, more than a month before its release. The action RPG launches on September 19th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s also available on day one for Game Pass.

Plenty of hype built up around Lies of P. Developed under Round8 Studio, and fans quickly took up with the storyline and the soulslike gameplay teased for the title. But it’s always a waiting game to see just when the development team has hit their fabled gold status. It looks like the development team behind the upcoming Lies of P have finally hit that milestone, and that should mean nothing is preventing this title from hitting the marketplace at its intended launch date. 

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty developer Team Ninja has released its 2023 roadmap for the game.
