Five Nights at Freddy's is the next big video game adaptation to hit the big screen, following raging successes such as HBO's The Last of Us and Netflix's The Witcher series. Unfortunately for director Emma Tammi and her team, Five Nights at Freddy's isn't nearly as well received, as it's currently getting absolutely slammed on Rotten Tomatoes, with big critics calling it a snoozefest and not as scary as the video games that it's based on.
Sylvester Stallone's 2022 superhero movie Samaritan is getting the sequel treatment at Prime Video.
Old Dads has taken over the number one spot on Netflix's Top 10 – but not everyone is feeling it.
The Fallout TV series finally has a release date. In a tweet, Amazon Prime Video confirmed that the live-action adaptation of the eponymous Bethesda video game franchise will premiere April 12, 2024, exclusively on the streamer. The news comes in celebration of the annual Fallout Day — October 23 — which marks the day when the retro-futuristic in-game world was turned into a nuclear wasteland, causing survivors to scavenge and live off irradiated junk. HBO's Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are developing the series under their Kilter Films banner — billed as an original story set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles and will be included as Fallout universe canon.

As initially reported by The New York Times and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Stewart's Apple TV+ series The Problem with Jon Stewart was canceled just weeks before filming of the third season was scheduled to start. According to one of the NYT's sources, «Mr. Stewart told members of his staff on Thursday that potential show topics related to China and artificial intelligence were causing concern among Apple executives». According to THR's sources, executives told Stewart he had to be «aligned» with them regarding the show's topics, and that led to him deciding to leave.
Charlie Brooker, the creator of mind-bending dystopian series Black Mirror, has come forward to defend the show's newer seasons on Netflix.
HBO TV series The Last of Us, inspired by the Naughty Dog series of the same name, has done...something to a lot of the game industry executives I've spoken with in 2023. Interest in adapting video game properties has been growing for a few years, with niche titles like Disco Elysium being scooped up and imminent projects like a Fallout TV show about to land, but the Pedro Pascal/Bella Ramsey-helmed series seems to be sparking a shift at the executive level.
Netflix's annual Geeked Week digital showcase is back, offering glimpses at its upcoming projects. The virtual event kicks off November 6, marked Stranger Things Day, and continues throughout the week until November 12, with news and sneak peeks from highly anticipated projects such as Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action adaptation, and more. In addition to the official Geeked Week website, the show will be available to stream on Netflix's YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook accounts. With the streamer's gradual pivot into gaming, fans can expect some exciting development on that end as well — presumably, the ability to cloud stream games onto a TV.
Hollywood studios turning movies and TV shows into video games is nothing new. How better to attract eyeballs (and dollars) than to capitalize on the popularity of beloved characters?
Spend any time talking to Greg Weisman, creator of the 1990s animated series Gargoyles, and a few things are sure to come up: Yes, he’s interested in continuing Gargoyles, which was cut off mid-story, and which maintains a cult following to this day. And yes, he’s open to a live-action version. But Walt Disney Studios, which owns the rights to the show, has been playing around with that idea for decades, and every time it almost gets off the ground, something changes and it gets scuttled.
The cult classic animated series Gargoyles is coming back as a live-action Disney Plus series courtesy of some big names in the horror world.
The Netflix team is slowly trying to break into the video game industry. It’s not an easy process; they are still far from where they likely want to be. Right now, their bread and butter is providing a streaming service for movies and television shows. We can’t forget to add the fact that they also produce original content. But the company has been making some drastic moves of its own. One of their recent moves has been aimed at the video game industry.
We don’t hear Rick or Morty talk for the entire cold open of Rick and Morty season 7. For those attuned to behind-the-scenes upheaval — of co-creator and star Justin Roiland being fired after allegations of domestic violence and troubling professional behavior surfaced — it seemed like a slow play. For months, the creators behind Rick and Morty talked about hiring “soundalikes” to step into the lead roles (both played by Roiland), but wouldn’t say who they were. At San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Steve Levy would only say that they sound the same, and “the characters are the same characters. No change.”
Netflix is reportedly interested in adding a Grand Theft Auto game to its subscription service.
The new voice actors for Rick and Morty have been revealed – after thousands of people auditioned.
This week on Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson came full circle. Just two years after departing the sketch series, Davidson returned to host the show and took the opportunity to look inward. It’s a bit of a trend for the actor, though this time the therapeutic comedy came in the form of Pete Davidson-themed parody of Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie.
With minimal fanfare, Nintendo has finally confirmed the new voice of Mario in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and he has at least one thing in common with Charles Martinet in that you probably won't recognize much of his pre-Mario work.
There’s a reason that Nintendo is easily the most beloved of the video game publishers; they have so much to offer gamers, and they almost have a child-like whimsy about them that allows them to think big and attempt to put their gaming properties in all sorts of places. And we’re not just talking about Hollywood or even theme parks. They are totally fine with decking out areas that you might go through every day with their stuff to remind you of their charm. For example, in Kyoto, they decided to deck out an entire underpass with art from Mario’s various titles and worlds!

For years before director Dan Trachtenberg was established enough to get a Predator movie made, he imagined a scene where a lone Comanche warrior faced off against a bone-armored hunter from beyond the stars. That vision panned out into a worthy studio gamble; when Trachtenberg’s Predator prequel Prey hit Hulu in 2022, it was lauded as a reinvention of a tired franchise and one of the Disney-acquired 20th Century Studios’ first straight-to-streaming hits. Today, Trachtenberg says it’s hard to shake what made the project so special to him — especially with sequel talk aflutter.
The Witcher blew up in popularity thanks to CD Projekt Red’s video game adaptation. While the novels have had their own following, the majority of the world grew to learn about Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, and the other cast of character’s escapades from the video games. So, it wasn’t too surprising that a live-action adaptation also came to fruition. Much like CD Projekt Red, the television series also took to the novel source material and adapted their show from that. As a result, there are differences across the board. Regardless, it looks like the end is in sight if you grew to love the show because you enjoyed the video game franchise.
Ahead of the release of his new epic Napoleon, director Ridley Scott sits down with Total Film to discuss his past, present, and future projects, including the long-awaited follow-up to his 2000s smash hit Gladiator. The sequel stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Barry Keoghan, and Denzel Washington, whose role has been left unclear, until now.
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a live-action adaptation, developer CD Projekt Red has announced. The project is being developed in collaboration with Anonymous Content, the independent media company best known for producing Emmy-winning shows like True Detective and Mr. Robot. It's unclear if this take will be a feature-length film or a TV series, but the hunt for a screenwriter has commenced, with plans to tell a brand-new story set in the futuristic neon-lit world, where sex, body modifications, and political chatter are commonplace. The developer also stressed that the adaptation is at an ‘early developmental stage,' so it'll be a while before we receive any further updates.
After 146 days, a landmark deal is going to soon be signed by the Writers' Guild of America, after it got several concessions from the producers and moguls running Hollywood. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) remains on strike as of this writing.
It is, in my humble opinion, pretty messed up that John Woo has not made a Hollywood action film in 20 long years. But the drought is now over. After spending the last two decades working in Hong Kong cinema once more, Woo has returned to these shores with the forthcoming Silent Night — a Christmas John Woo movie, no less. What a wonderful holiday gift to us.
Hollywood veteran Tom Hanks has warned his fans about a dental plan advertisement that is using an "AI version" of him.
The most interesting part of the Hollywood writers' new contract is the AI clause. According to news reports, it explicitly allows the studios to “train” large language models on scripts written by members of the Writers Guild. The agreement implies that permission to train an LLM on a writer's works has value. It follows that the right must be purchased from the writer — not simply taken.

Johnny Cage has been kind of a big deal for Mortal Kombat from the beginning. Scorpion and Sub-Zero may be the faces of the franchise, and Liu Kang its hero, but Johnny is critical to Mortal Kombat’s genesis.

Among the chunkier morsels from yesterday's leak of Microsoft documents is an extended email from Xbox CEO Phil Spencer, dating from 2020, in which he argues that today's largest AAA videogame publishers remain dogged by their "failure" to adapt to the shift from physical to digital videogame distribution, and especially, subscription models such as Microsoft's own Game Pass. This inability to move with the times, Spencer suggests, has created a situation whereby the largest publishers rely on sheer "production scale" to attract and retain customers.

After something as monumental as July's ‘Barbenheimer' event, any impending films in the year are bound to appear less enticing. However the month of August isn't without its highlights, with Bollywood serving two highly-anticipated sequels — OMG 2 and Gadar 2. The former sees Akshay Kumar returning as a godlike figure - this time as Lord Shiva - to partake in an amusing courtroom drama at the request of an unhappy civilian. OMG 2 is out August 11 in theatres. On the same day, Sunny Deol's Tara Singh once again embarks on a trip to Lahore, Pakistan, to bring his now fully-grown son back to India, amidst the roars of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Gadar 2 also sees most of the original cast reprise their roles.

He is, however, a wee little bit concerned that it might wipe out human life as we know it.
