One of the biggest ironies for AEW Fight Forever is that the game was in production for so long that not everyone within the game is the same as they were when development started. For example, multiple members of the game’s roster are now not a part of the title, like Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill. Then, in the case of Toni Storm, she’s not exactly the “same person” she was when work started on her character model. We’ll explain as we show you the reveal video for Toni Storm while you watch a narration by Toni Storm!
You see, AEW Fight Forever is doing the “original Toni Storm” model that we got when she first debuted with the company. The former women’s champion, at the time, was embracing her well-known persona as an “Aussie Rock Star” type, and it worked well. The fans loved her as a face and a heel, and she eventually became a two-time women’s champion when she joined The Outcasts.
However, around the summer of 2023, Toni had a “change,” and it led to her becoming “Timeless” Toni Storm, one of the most over characters in all of wrestling. She donned an “old school Hollywood diva” persona where she would do everything overdramatically, demanded to be treated like a star, and even had her own butler and “doe-eyed fangirl” via Mariah May. So, in the promo below, it’s hilarious to see the “Timeless One” talk about her old self while trying to put the game over, even if she “doesn’t understand” what all of it means.
The state of the women’s division is something that AEW fans are starting to see changes with. Throughout 2023, there were big moves for the women’s division, but they always seemed to be counteracted by some “less than great” ones. However, by the end of the year, new champions, including “Timeless” Toni Storm, who became the women’s world champ for a third time, helped lead the division into a more positive perception. At the last PPV event of 2023, there were three women’s matches on the main card, and there have already been some good women’s matches in 2024 so far.
Plus, there are teases on the horizon that there could be some big acquisitions for the AEW women’s division. So you might be seeing them added to the video game later on. AEW Dynamite is on tonight if you want to see if a certain “Mone-maker” shows up!
