The PS Plus Essential Games for August 2023 are now available to download, fresh trio of bundled in games that are headlined by the golf-tastic action of PGA Tour 2K23.
The PS Plus monthly games didn’t leak this time around so Sony got to announce things themselves. The trio of games can be downloaded via your PlayStation console right now but Sony have not updated the web store so do not try and download them from there as you will be charged actual money for them. With fresh competition from EA’s returning golf series, 2K Games released PGA Tour 2K23 last year with some pretty integral changes to broaden the game’s accessibility. In our PGA 2K23 review, Nick said, “PGA Tour 2K23 is a good improvement over its last iteration, making things more accessible with the 3-Click system and the Topgolf mode. There’s still areas for improvement, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.”
Alongside that, MediaMolecule’s game-making game Dreams is also being given away within PS Plus Essentials. The game was a great showcase of their creative tool set that evolved out from LittleBigPlanet, but we never did get a PS5 native update before they moved on to working on their next project.
And finally Death’s Door is a fantastic adventure that really captured our hearts in 2021. With a few months as an Xbox exclusive, it flapped over to PlayStation a little in the year, but remains a must-buy for fans of Zelda-like adventures. In our Death’s Door review Dom said, “Death’s Door is an atmospheric adventure through an inviting fantasy world. It’s perfectly crafted, generously provisioned, and an instant indie classic.”
The games will be available to download until Wednesday 6th September.
The PlayStation Plus relaunch took place back in the middle of 2022, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.

After announcing that PS5 game streaming via the cloud was in testing and would be available for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, a preview is rolling out for some users. Resetera users reported receiving an invite to the same, though getting in appears random.
Cloud gaming is slowly becoming more mainstream. It’s not at a level quite yet where we’re seeing most players adopting this method of gaming. Most might even say that downloads or physical copies are still far superior to cloud gaming. Mainly, it boils down to your internet connection when it comes to the experience you’ll have with cloud gaming. However, it wasn’t too long ago that Sony unveiled their plans to adopt cloud gaming into their PlayStation 5 library. Now we’re finally seeing some users gain access to the beta.
Sony is currently beta testing cloud streaming for PS5 games, and the lucky few who got an invite have confirmed the service supports 4K streams.
