While Ubisoft Singapore’sSkull and Bones will launch with an end-game, it will also receive new free content with post-launch seasons. Each season introduces legendary Pirate Lords for players to battle, new World Events, and more.
Season 1: Raging Tides sees players going up against Philippe La Peste while Faction Convoys, Territory Control and a sea monster, the Tylosaurus, also await. Season 2: Chorus of Havoc introduces the Hubac Twins along with the Megalodon, Fleet Management, the Compagnie Warship and the Dragon Boat Event.
Season 3: Into the Dragon’s Wake features Li Tian Ning as the next Pirate Lord to battle. A new Legendary Sea Monster and a “new major feature” await alongside the Halloween Event. Finally, Season 4: Shadows of the Deep involves facing a “mystery rival.” Each season offers different rewards, from new ships and weapons to furniture. There will also be new Takeover opportunities.

Despite being delayed six times so far, Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot is highly confident in Skull and Bones, so much so that he is tempting fate, invoking the dreaded «AAAA» moniker. The last developer we can recall doing that was the ill-fated Striking Distance Studios with The Callisto Protocol, a game with a sad ending.
I haven’t followed the development of Skull and Bones too closely over the years; I’d see the pirate game emerge at a show with a new trailer or demo, and then sink back beneath the waves with delay after delay. So when Ubisoft opened the game to the public with an open beta recently, I was intrigued to see how the close-to-final product looked. I’ve been known to enjoy a spot of piracy, and Ubisoft has the incredible Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag in its back catalogue, after all.
In Skull and Bones, although the Open Beta only lasted a few days, it was just enough time for some players to achieve some pretty awesome feats. Like EagleEGamer, who became a millionaire.
It’s been another cold week, and one that’s proven perfectly suited to wrapping up and playing video games. The free beta will run until Sunday night, after which Ubisoft will presumably delay the game for another seventeen years while once again redesigning the whole thing. While the character customization at the beginning of Skull and Bones is well designed thanks to the water’s reflection and shipwreck environment, it fails to let you see your entire character. You should save your time because there’s a much better character customization waiting for you after the tutorial.
