Sam Lake Catches Players Up Before Alan Wake 2 Launches

Even if you’ve never played the originalMax Payne, chances are that you’ve seen screenshots of the titular character with his determined, squinting face, looking like he’s ready to take on the world. It’s a rather dramatic look, and you wouldn’t be alone in wondering what on Earth prompted face actor Sam Lake to produce it.

Developer Remedy Entertainment has released a new video on the way to Alan Wake 2‘s release later this month. The video offers up a recap of the events of the original Alan Wake to help players that may not have played the predecessor to the upcoming horror title. Check it out below.

Leading up to the October 27 release date for Alan Wake 2, developer Remedy has worked with Epic Games to create a playable recap for the original Alan Wake. The 20-minute recap can be played through Fortnite, and serves as a refresher for the events of the original game.

Alan Wake: Flashback is a «reimagining» of the events of Alan Wake—a sort of playable crash course recap created using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

Remedy Entertainment is releasing Alan Wake 2 next week, on October 27, and while there's still time to replay (or play for the first time) Alan Wake before its sequel is out, October is a stacked month, and time might not be on your side. Alan Wake: Flashback might help, though, as it's a new Unreal Editor for Fortnite experience that gives players the chance to relive the mysteries and events of the first Alan Wake, albeit presumably in a much shorter and more streamlined fashion.

Alan Wake 2’s creative director has teased Remedy’s post-launch plans for the title, telling the audience at EGX this weekend that the DLC will be “pretty significant”.

We’re midway through October, with the heaviest hitters set to launch in the coming weeks. That includes Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2, which launches on October 27th (after a delay to avoid competing with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2). It promises over 20 hours of gameplay, but there are also two expansions coming post-launch.
