The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced the nominations for the 27th annual DICE Awards, revealing that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has garnered the most nominations (9) ahead of Alan Wake 2 (8) and Baldur's Gate 3 (7). Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Character (for Miles Morales), Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design, Outstanding Technical Achievement, Action Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, and Game of the Year. Alan Wake 2 was listed in the Art, Character (for Saga Anderson), Music Composition, Audio Design, Story, Technical Achievement, Adventure, and Game of the Year categories. The reception has been beyond anything we could have hoped for, with Alan Wake 2 taking home The Game Awards trophies for Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best Game Direction. The release of has been met with wide approval, praised for its strong storytelling and creepy atmosphere. Naturally, as a sequel to a game made in 2010, many wonder whether experience with the previous entries in the franchise is necessary to play or understand. Like many sequels, the story of directly follows the events of the first game, but the question of whether it's required to play other Remedy Entertainment games like is a bit more nuanced than a yes or no answer.

Foe Robert Nightingale returns in as a boss that you will have to beat fairly early. Unlike the first game, he is no longer a Federal Agent but still stalks Alan and Saga during the adventure. Nightingale has been murdered by the Cult of the Tree and turned into a dark apparition.

Like many games, features a number of collectible items as well as trophies for satisfying certain criteria. While many of the game's achievements cannot be missed, or can at least be completed at the player's leisure, a number are time-sensitive and can all too easily be overlooked or neglected.

Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games Publishing's survival horror game has an incredibly restricted number of weapons to choose from — though this may sound like a negative, it is thematically appropriate and only furthers the need to carefully select which weapons to carry. Moreover, as the game has two protagonists with unique firearm arsenals, the number of weapons available at any one time is yet further limited — Sage has five guns to choose from, and Alan has only three. While all the guns can be useful in the right circumstances, some are far superior when compared with others.

Like many of the collectibles in Alan Wake 2, the lunch boxes are crucial to the larger story. There are several that you can find scattered throughout the Watery area, and you’ll want to track them all down.

It took years after the release of Alan Wake before Remedy Entertainment could return and bring out a proper sequel. The game development team had previously tried to deliver a game installment to keep the narrative going for Alan Wake; however, nothing quite lined up in their favor. Instead, they went on to create games like Quantum Break and Control. However, since the release of Control, the developers were finally able to pick Alan Wake back up and deliver a new game for fans. Now that this Alan Wake 2 game is finally available, the development studio is crediting the folks over at Epic Games for giving them the creative freedom required to deliver such an acclaimed hit. 

Sami Antero Järvi, known to most by the pen name Sam Lake, has been at Remedy Entertainment for his entire career. He has been writing Remedy games ever since 1996's Death Rally, though it was when his face was used for the protagonist of Max Payne that he really became famous.

Epic Games Publishing and Remedy Entertainment's exceptional survival horror game, , is a phenomenal game that features some of the best vocal acting in any recently released title. Managing to avoid the lure of hiring widely known celebrities to fill out its roster of voices, does still feature a cast comprised of a number of figures with easily recognizable voices — many of which players will quite possibly be able to identify from their notable roles in the worlds of film, theater, and television, and, in a few select cases, even from other popular video games.

A good game over screen doesn’t just serve as a notice that you need to start over. In the survival horror genre, a well-crafted, properly terrifying game over screen should serve as a deterrent, ensuring you stay alive the next time to avoid seeing the bloody words ‘Game Over’ appear on your screen. And sometimes, like in Alan Wake 2, they could be so terrifying you never want to die again.

Alan Wake 2 is out today, and despite some trepidation about its daunting system requirements on PC (which fortunately appears to be misplaced), it's going very well: Early reviews, for the most part, are positively glowing. (We'll have our own review up soon.) With the new tale of the struggling author now out the door, Remedy has offered the world some insight into what it has in mind for future chapters.

It’s no secret that sometimes it takes a LONG time for a video game to get the sequel it deserves. The irony is that sometimes these sequels come from genre-defining titles and ones that sold many millions of copies upon their release. An excellent example is with a certain horror franchise that Remedy Entertainment made a long time ago. Despite the unique setting, story, protagonist, and horror elements, there was no sequel to the game…until now, that is. After a long period of teases, rumors, and waiting, Alan Wake 2 is now available for purchase, and the teams behind the game are excited to talk about it.

Alan Wake 2 is a tremendous psychological thriller, a horror game that has you rightfully jumping in your seat with well-earned frights.

Some of the best, most compelling stories make you think about them after they are done and dusted, sitting with you for a while and making you question if you missed anything. Alan Wake has always been about the mystery, with the first game throwing up a metric ton of questions, which were slowly answered through spin-offs, ARGs and even completely separate games. Even then, the mystery wasn’t fully explained, and to some extent, with Alan Wake 2 now in our hands, it still isn’t.

I’m hard-pressed to remember a game with as shockingly effective an opening as Alan Wake 2. From the outset, Remedy Entertainment makes its intent explicitly clear: to amplify every facet of its 2010 action-horror cult classic, and in doing so, subvert interactive storytelling tropes at every turn. Astoundingly, the studio’s grasp meets its reach, delivering an experience far darker, deeper, and weirder than anything it has crafted before.

Alan Wake 2 is a paradox. It’s inspired by television shows like Twin Peaks, books like Paul Auster’s Book of Illusions, and games like Resident Evil 2 Remake. Yet it feels like nothing else out there.
