Developer Remedy Entertainment has released a new video on the way to Alan Wake 2‘s release later this month. The video offers up a recap of the events of the original Alan Wake to help players that may not have played the predecessor to the upcoming horror title. Check it out below.
The video offers up a cinematic look back at the events of the first Alan Wake. For context, the story in Alan Wake 2 will pick up around 13 years after the events of the original game. The video shows us how protagonist Alan Wake found himself trapped in the Dark place, as well as the fate of the town of Bright Falls.
The release of this video means that there are now several ways for players to catch up on the story of Alan Wake. Earlier this week, Remedy worked with Epic to release a story refresher playable entirely from within Fortnite. The game has also seen a video released earlier this month featuring creative director Sam Lake narrating the game’s story.
Alan Wake 2 is slated for release on October 27, and will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Game director Kyle Rowly has revealed that the game has taken quite a bit of inspiration from Silent Hill for the classic horror franchise’s emphasis on atmosphere.

A good game over screen doesn’t just serve as a notice that you need to start over. In the survival horror genre, a well-crafted, properly terrifying game over screen should serve as a deterrent, ensuring you stay alive the next time to avoid seeing the bloody words ‘Game Over’ appear on your screen. And sometimes, like in Alan Wake 2, they could be so terrifying you never want to die again.
It’s no secret that sometimes it takes a LONG time for a video game to get the sequel it deserves. The irony is that sometimes these sequels come from genre-defining titles and ones that sold many millions of copies upon their release. An excellent example is with a certain horror franchise that Remedy Entertainment made a long time ago. Despite the unique setting, story, protagonist, and horror elements, there was no sequel to the game…until now, that is. After a long period of teases, rumors, and waiting, Alan Wake 2 is now available for purchase, and the teams behind the game are excited to talk about it.

It is part of the cascading telemetry of fear utilized by our best horror artists, weaving nightmares out of pleasant dreams, whittling hell from the bones of our heavens.
