Leading up to the October 27 release date for Alan Wake 2, developer Remedy has worked with Epic Games to create a playable recap for the original Alan Wake. The 20-minute recap can be played through Fortnite, and serves as a refresher for the events of the original game.
The refresher, titled Alan Wake: Flashback, is a reimagining of the original Alan Wake, and was developed by Remedy, Spiral House and Zen Creative. Alan Wake: Flashback can be played on any platform where Fortnite is available, and can be accessed through its Island Code: 3426-5561-3374.
For players that might want a different way of remembering the original Alan Wake, creative director Sam Lake had released a video earlier this month recapping all events that take place in the franchise leading up to the start of Alan Wake 2. The recap covers Alan Wake, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and Control: AWE.
Alan Wake 2 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game will feature two distinct protagonists throughout the story, and will be split almost evenly between both characters according to director Kyle Rowley.

Alan Wake 2 has been out for over a week now, and it’s already become the topic of many a watercooler conversation here at Polygon. The release of has been met with wide approval, praised for its strong storytelling and creepy atmosphere. Naturally, as a sequel to a game made in 2010, many wonder whether experience with the previous entries in the franchise is necessary to play or understand. Like many sequels, the story of directly follows the events of the first game, but the question of whether it's required to play other Remedy Entertainment games like is a bit more nuanced than a yes or no answer.
Depending on who you ask, a game is only as good as its soundtrack, with scores proving essential in nailing the tone the development team wants to create.

Scratch, the shadow creature spreading corruption and chaos in , is the final boss you have to beat toward the end of this intense survival horror game. Although there is another Chapter to the story after this fight, you won't have another chance to foil the schemes of this horrifying entity. This short encounter will test your ability to multitask quickly as you try to keep an artifact called the Clicker out of Scratch's hands.
There are two shotguns available to players of , which they can find at different points in the story. Saga can use one, and one can be used by Alan later in the story, although both will have little ammo at first. However, both of the shotguns will be very useful for the enemies the characters encounter and can allow them to escape the Dark Presence.
Epic Games Publishing and Remedy Entertainment's exceptional survival horror game, , is a phenomenal game that features some of the best vocal acting in any recently released title. Managing to avoid the lure of hiring widely known celebrities to fill out its roster of voices, does still feature a cast comprised of a number of figures with easily recognizable voices — many of which players will quite possibly be able to identify from their notable roles in the worlds of film, theater, and television, and, in a few select cases, even from other popular video games.
Instead of finding Manuscript Fragments for upgrades, the eponymous character will need to find Words of Power in Alan Wake 2. These Words of Power locations allow Alan to upgrade himself in multiple different special character trees. Each upgrade increases his strength in a different way — you can deal more damage, enhance your health, or make your weapons more powerful. It all depends on those Words of Power.
