Harmonix will bring to an end eight years of weekly Rock Band 4 DLC updates next week.
Since the franchise debuted, the studio has added almost 3,000 songs to Rock Band as DLC, according to Harmonix veteran Daniel Sussman, who is now a senior product manager at parent company Epic Games.
“Many of you reading this own a good chunk of this content and we remain committed to protecting that investment – to be very clear, you can play the songs you own within Rock Band 4 for as long as you like,” he said.
While the game’s last weekly DLC will arrive on January 25, Sussman said “all other live services will continue as normal, including Rivals seasons, online play, and everything else”.
Since being acquired by Epic in 2021, Harmonix has been focused on its new free-to-play music game Fortnite Festival.
“If you are a fan of the rhythm game category, Fortnite Festival is the place to be; and with support for RB4 instruments coming, this is not the time to hang up your guitars just yet,” Sussman said.
“We deliberated long and hard about how to frame the last blast of RB DLC of this era. The last two weeks will feature some tear jerkers that sum up our feelings about this moment. We thank you for your commitment to and passion for this wonderful game.”
Harmonix’s latest game was added to Fortnite last month alongside two other live service experiences, Fortnite Lego and Fortnite: Rocket Racing.
Console users reportedly spent over 1.6 billion hours playing Fortnite in December – more Call of Duty HQ (Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone), EA Sports FC 24, Grand Theft Auto V/Online and Roblox combined.

January 25 will be the last day that Harmonix releases new DLC songs for Rock Band 4, its music/rhythm game that it's supported with new content for nearly a decade. Launching five years after Rock Band 3, Rock Band 4 came out at a time when the music/rhythm game craze had largely passed. While it failed to generate nearly as much interest as its predecessors, it did still manage to find some success and a dedicated fanbase.
Rock Band 4’s weekly DLC drops are coming to an end. Harmonix said Wednesday the upcoming batch of new songs on January 25 will be the game’s last. Although all other live services will remain active, the developer plans to give full attention to the Rock Band-like Fortnite Festival, a rhythm game inside Epic’s digital world.
