Resident Evil 4 Remake wins PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023

I would say Lies of P is one of the games that came out this year that surprised a lot of people. A Soulsborne game inspired by Carlo Collodi's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, it managed to surprise a lot of people with its great setting, surprisingly fun combat, and challenge, which is something that we have come to expect from the genre it is based on. The game received generally positive reviews across the board, and now, Apple has awarded it with the Mac Game of the Year award during its 2023 App Store Awards.

A sizable portion of CAPCOM's comeback streak of game releases included the Resident Evil remakes. The publisher's strategy to bring back the survival horror classics paid dividends, with Resident Evil 2 launching to critical acclaim in January 2019. While we wait for Bloober Team to finish its remake of Silent Hill 2, we can see what a hypothetical remake of the original game with 2023 graphical fidelity might look like thanks to Resident Evil 4 mods. The Silent Hill 1 Outfit Pack contains costumes that let Leon cosplay as Harry Mason, Ada as Cybil Bennett, Luis as Michael Dr. Kaufmann, and Ashley as either missing girl Alessa Gillespie or nurse Lisa Garland. Saddler gets a recolored robe to look like he raided Dahlia Gillespie's wardrobe too.

The nominees for every category in The Game Awards 2023 have been revealed. There will be 31 total awards given, and the nominations have narrowed each category down to five or six potential recipients. The Game Awards is perhaps the video game industry's most lucrative honors ceremony, with over 100 million viewers tuning in for the livestream in 2022. Although the show is highly anticipated for the game reveals and trailers it promises to bring each year, its prizes are ultimately the reason for the occasion.

Supergiant Games’ roguelike dungeon crawler Hades will soon be available on even more platforms, as it’s been confirmed that it’s set to release on iOS via Netflix Games at some point in 2024.

It’s no secret that in a year of incredible games, Baldur’s Gate 3 is arguably at the top. Not only is it the highest-rated game of 2023 on Metacritic and Opencritic, but of its 353,326 user reviews on Steam, 96 percent are positive for an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating.

2023 may not quite be done yet, but the game-of-the-year conversation is already beginning to heat up. Case in point, the Golden Joystick Awards, one of the longest-running video game awards shows with winners being voted on by the UK public, has announced their winners. The big winner was Baldur’s Gate 3, which walked away with “Ultimate Game of the Year” and six other awards. The rest of the winner’s field was quite divided, with only two other games, Final Fantasy XVI and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, receiving more than one award. Some games that seemed to be frontrunners earlier in the year, like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Resident Evil 4 remake, only received a single trophy.

Baldur's Gate 3 gobbled up five awards in London today at The Golden Joystick Awards, an annual event put on by PC Gamer's publisher. That's Larian CEO Swen Vincke hugging the haul with a big grin in the photo above, which was posted on X by Larian director of publishing Michael Douse.
