A reliable Capcom insider who originally reported that Resident Evil 9 might have been hit with an internal delay has now suggested that's not the case and that it should still be releasing in 2025.

Longtime Resident Evil protagonist Leon Kennedy will reportedly return for the ninth instalment in the series. Multiple leakers claim that Leon will once again be a main character, and at this point in the story, will be 48 years old.

The action survival-horror game was a robust package, but some memorable moments had been excised from the GameCube original. With Separate Ways, a new add-on starring enigmatic super spy Ada Wong, Resident Evil 4 feels complete — and then some.

There could be some more Resident Evil 4 DLC coming after Separate Ways, at least according to a little detail hidden in the RE4 Remake Steam backend. With Ada Wong finally back in Resident Evil 4 for a full campaign mode, and The Mercenaries also available for free, if we compare to the original Resident Evil 4, that only leaves Assignment Ada absent from RE4 Remake. But whether this is the missing chunk of DLC from Capcom’s superlative survival shooter remains to be seen.

The Resident Evil 4 remake was a hit, as it should be. This particular installment for the Resident Evil franchise was incredibly popular upon its release and remains one of the more cherished installments. However, the remake is now giving fans who missed out on the original release a chance to try it out. Likewise, veteran players are getting a chance to replay the game with a modern touch. With that said, there was a glaring omission from the remake release, and that was the missing Separate Ways DLC. 

Resident Evil fans have been waiting for Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s VR mode, and at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, we saw a bit more of what’s in store. The free VR mode, which will be released on PS VR2, will allow you to experience Leon Kennedy’s tale in the most immersive way possible.

Resident Evil 4 sure knows how to set the tone: the remake’s intro sees Leon slowly advancing through creepy woods and rotting, ominous houses, culminating in the horrifying crescendo that is the infamous village attack. But with that groundwork already laid, The Separate Ways DLC has no need for such a slow build-up, and smartly wastes very little time shifting into high gear: we’re put up against an extremely imposing boss mere minutes after taking control of Ada Wong, the star of this show. In fact, though it only took me just over four hours to complete this side story’s seven chapters, Separate Ways rarely wastes a moment of your time, and proves to be a highly entertaining roller coaster that includes some very satisfying new takes on ideas from its original 2005 inspiration.

If you enjoyed Resident Evil 4’s remake earlier this year, get ready to dive right back into the game. For starters, we just released the DLC campaign for Separate Ways. That was a campaign fans have been waiting for Capcom to confirm. Fortunately, with the confirmation that we’ll get Ada Wong’s campaign, it came with a launch date relatively close to its announcement. However, beyond that, we know a free VR update is coming to those who have the PlayStation VR2.

Pretty much since the remake of Resident Evil 4 was released in March (yes, it’s been six months since it launched), fans have been clamoring for the “Separate Ways” DLC. The upcoming expansion was confirmed during Sony’s State of Play, and now a new trailer has been doing the rounds.

Eduard Badaluta, the face model for Leon Kennedy in the Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes, is calling on fan accounts to be deleted. In comments that have since been removed, Badaluta says these fans are running "piece of shit accounts", and says that he "doesn't need" fan accounts in the first place.

Resident Evil is the defining survival horror game series. There have been ups and downs, sure, but essentially, every Resident Evil game brings something unique. And now, with rumors swirling about a possible RE Code Veronica remake, you can get basically the entire Resident Evil series for $35. That’s $335 worth of games for less than the price of one.

Resident Evil 4 DLC might be on its way sooner than we expected, as survival horror game developer Capcom implements some changes to RE4 on Steam, updating the shooter for some possible new material. Naturally, we’re expecting the Ada Wong-led campaign Separate Ways, which was not originally included as part of Resident Evil 4 Remake. But the Steam updates could also be connected to new material for the Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries minigame.

There’s nothing quite like a new take on a classic game, and Resident Evil 4 should be no exception. We’ve already encountered enough mods for the remake, so it’s nice to see the 2005 version of Resident Evil 4 still getting some love in 2D form.

And now we have a kind of Resident Evil 4 Remake Remake, as the classic Capcom survival horror game is completely transformed into a 2D side-scrolling shooter akin to Metal Slug, Streets of Rage, and Cuphead. This is Leon Kennedy as you’ve never seen him before, battling the Los Illuminados in the style of arcade games and platformers. We’re still waiting for news on Resident Evil 9, but if you’re a giant RE fan, this might just tide you over.
