PS5 Sales Touch 55 Million As Sony Breaks Revenue Records | Push Square

Pre-orders for physical copies of the PS5’s upcoming Stellar Blade have opened in South Korea, and the goodies are stunning. As spotted by a Shift Up fan account, buyers can choose between a vinyl soundtrack or a themed USB stick, with the former sporting some particularly fetching artwork. In fact, we’re not sure why this isn’t the box art, because it looks absolutely incredible.

How big of a hit has Helldivers 2 been? Well, how about this: in the UK, across its first three weeks available, its sales are just 28 per cent lower than the immense juggernaut that is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 across its first three weeks on the market. Now, there are some caveats to clarify here: Arrowhead Studios’ hit co-op game is available on both PS5 and PC, with the former accounting for 57 per cent of the total sales. This is accurate across physical and digital, but obviously Insomniac Games’ superhero sequel launched exclusively on Sony’s home console.

RPG Maker is a franchise that's largely steered clear of PlayStation consoles, but that trend is set to change with the release of RPG Maker WITH. Published by NIS America, it's headed to PC and Switch at some point in the autumn / fall, while PS5 and PS4 versions are locked in for 2025.

Update: Well, even if you did manage to grab the Stellar Blade demo on PS5 (it was mistakenly released on the PS Store for roughly 25 minutes before being pulled), you probably won't be able to play it from this point on. Sony seems to have updated the demo's license, meaning that if your PS5 is connected to the internet, you'll now be blocked from booting it up.

The wonderful Balatro's rise to stardom has been fascinating to see. Relatively obscure until close to launch, the indie, poker-based roguelike quickly ballooned in popularity, becoming publisher Playstack's fastest-selling title in just a few days. Now, 10 days after release on PC and consoles, the game has reached a new milestone of 500,000 copies sold.

A number of PS5-bound titles will be hitting the news cycle this week thanks to a freshly announced Xbox showcase. The 'Xbox Partner Preview' takes place on the 6th March (that's this Wednesday!), and across its 30-minute runtime, you can expect to see gameplay from the likes of The First Berserker: Khazan, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU.

The open world survival game set in the Terminator universe has been revealed as Terminator Survivors. It is coming to PS5, and you can play the game either on your own or in co-op with friends. The game is set four years after the events of Judgment Day as «you emerge from a shelter to attempt and reestablish some semblance of society in a world that seems hell-bent on eliminating you and the last vestiges of mankind». It sounds like all is not well at Sony studio Firesprite, which the platform holder acquired in 2021. Atlus has announced that the Persona series has slid past 22 million copies sold, releasing a special Persona 3 Reload trailer, «Promise», to celebrate. It's an impressive milestone, one which demonstrates how vast the gulf between the various players in the space remains; Final Fantasy, for comparison, has sold more than 180 million units across its admittedly much more extensive catalogue, and Dragon Quest racking up some 88 million, with both IP owned by Atlus competitor and OG RPG publisher, Square Enix.

It's been a little quiet on the GTA 6 front, with Rockstar presumably enforcing a strict no-speak policy. NDAs, however, don't apply to actual rockstars like rapper ScHoolboy Q, who appears to have confirmed his musical return for the eagerly anticipated Grand Theft Auto sequel, which analysts don't expect to release before April 2025.

In addition to being Rare's first PlayStation game in its incredible 39-year history, Sea of Thieves will require PS5 players to sign up for a Microsoft account to play. Then, progressive players ready to face this brave new world can link their PlayStation and Microsoft accounts (!) in what will undoubtedly be a strange, landmark moment for gamers on both sides of this historical divide.
