RPG Maker is a franchise that's largely steered clear of PlayStation consoles, but that trend is set to change with the release of RPG Maker WITH. Published by NIS America, it's headed to PC and Switch at some point in the autumn / fall, while PS5 and PS4 versions are locked in for 2025.
If you're sat there wondering what RPG Maker even is, the name gives it away. Basically, it's a set of tools and premade assets that you can use to create your own RPG. In that sense, it's a bit like Dreams, but with a very specific focus. The Japanese franchise has been around for decades, but again, it's rarely appeared on consoles — especially here in the West.
The official press release reads: «RPG Maker WITH features more tools and greater accessibility than ever before. The user-friendly interface and intuitive controls make it easy to choose between creating simple or complex assets and functions, so you can dive right in, regardless of skill level.»
WITH promises a huge number of premade assets that you can use right off the bat, or you can use the game's customisation tools to make your own stuff. «For the first time ever in a console RPG Maker title, you can even share your assets and unfinished projects,» the press release continues.

Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, he's played 'em all — a little too much, some might say.
Would be great if they could add 2dhd visuals, though from what the designers at Square Enix say it's quite difficult to put that look together. Perhaps it's reworking ue4 that makes it so tricky. Having a streamlined tool for that would be very cool.
RPG Maker is already available. I played for a good 20hrs or so, managed to create a bit of story and a town and dungeon. Needs a lot of patience and watching you tube tutorials to get to grips with. Hopefully they can make this one more user friendly because it can be a lot of fun.
I wonder if you can move any RPG's you've made in RPGmaker MV to this one. My brother has spent over 700 hours making his RPG.
The last one was on PS4 you could buy it at NISA.
I've always been intrigued by these but I don't have the Kemco to get into them.
@Bentleyma 700!? Seven HUNDRED? Whaaaat...
There was an RPG Maker game back on the OG Playstation. I didn't play it but remember it being covered in magazines. I thought the franchise was pretty well-known, even in the West, if not

Developers happy to mimic the style of Hollywood blockbusters in their video game soundtracks are stopping video game music from advancing, one of the best to ever do it - Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu - has said.
We’ll say this up front for those of you still exploring Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s vast world: there are no late-game story spoilers here. As seen in its pre-release debut via a new trailer late last year, the action RPG’s theme song “No Promises to Keep” is performed in-game by Aerith. Behind the scenes though, the track was composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary composer behind the iconic soundtracks for much of the Final Fantasy series, including Final Fantasy VII Remake. The song’s vocals were performed by American singer Loren Allred, who brought her spellbinding singing voice to the track, augmenting the beautiful—yet tragic—world of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the epic story told within it.
Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu believes game music has become too similar to film and «cannot develop further» if continuing in this direction.
An old Nintendo patent from 20 years ago has just surfaced, showing what appears to be an N64 console with a DVD drive. The Nintendo 64 was a revolutionary system for its time, featuring groundbreaking 3D graphics that provided an additional sense of immersion to classic Nintendo games like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, the N64 still used cartridges for its software instead of making the jump to optical disks, a decision that led to Square Enix partnering with Sony to release Final Fantasy 7 as a PlayStation exclusive due to that console’s superior CD technology.
Helldivers 2 came out of nowhere and took the world by storm, and that continues to be reflected in sales. It was the UK’s best-selling game in February, and it’s been seeing consistent growth in sales in the US as well. On top of that, the game also managed to top the PlayStation Plus charts for top downloads for the month of February. In both North America and Europe, Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op third-person shooter was No. 1.
With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Square Enix working on the final installment in the Remake trilogy, there are a lot of questions. How will it end? Will it include more content and characters from the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7? Whatever the result, it’s confirmed that the world will be “rebuilt” to accommodate the Highwind.
